I really want to see an F1 LM. I've already seen the F1 at Shelton Ferrari and the F1 in London. Next on my list is the F1 LM. So, where are they?
P.S.: this is my first post as a member of AF! Just came here from the rapidcars.com forums, anybody else go there too?

The only one in the US in Massachusetts. It's not available for public viewing though.
There is also one in a collection in Japan, but I don't have any other details.
McLaren Cars retains possession of the 'XP1 LM' prototype. It may end up in the McLaren museum. I'm not sure when that will officially open.

the one in america is LM3, now there's one in Japan, which is LM2 or LM5. there was also a car entered in an edition of the Gumball rally, also LM2 or LM5, IIRC, the owner's name is David Morrison.
Then there's one in Dubai with the Sheik, that has to be one of the black LM's, LM1 or LM4, and the last one is still unknown, it's a shame though, because i think the black one's, although i never saw any real pic of them, are more beautiful

Morrison's plate read 'I SEN' - the photos from www.racercar.co.uk show it very clearly. I have speculated in the past that Morrion's LM is the same one that is now in the US. I still haven't confirmed that, but it would not surprise me. Shortly after running the Gumball, he had some legal problems which may have forced the sale of some of his toys.

Guys,
I am pretty sure that the all 5 LM's were produced in Orange to commemorate Bruce McLaren:
"As a tribute to the memory of Bruce McLaren, all the F1 LM's were painted in the same Papaya Orange that was used on his contemporary Formula One and Can Am cars." McLaren Cars.
There definitely is one in the UK in Surrey. The chap who owns it is an ex-city banker who has a rather special collection of Ferrari’s and the LM. He also owns a share in a well known Ferrari specialist in the UK. :2cents:
The chap who used to valet my cars was good friends with this chap and worked on his cars, too. On one of his visits, he mentioned that a friends/customer of his had a F1 LM, and that he had moved the car around in the course of his work. In short, I did not believe it was a LM. When he next came around, he showed me pics of this guy’s garage, and pics of him standing next to the Orange LM! It was a genuine LM :eek7:
I also have it on good authority that the Sultan of Brunei wanted all 5 LM’s, but Ron Dennis personally made sure that did not happen.

Marc Chase of LaJolla, CA
Robert Heinz (Heinz Ketchup), Newport Beach, CA
I read it off the rapidcars.com forums and I don't believe it, but I guess it's possible because we only know for sure where 2 LM's are - one in Japan and Selldorff's in massachusetts

The other three LMs are all accounted for as being in Brunei - including those two black ones. ;)
As for those names, I can guarantee they don't own LMs - Mr. Selldorff's is the only one in the USA and probably will remain the only one here as the others more than likely will never be sold. I have also never heard either of those names associated with F1 ownership. That isn't to say that they are incorrect, just none that I have ever heard of. If you can find out more information, I'd be interested in hearing it.

Well, I doubted the guy even more when he said his uncle owns a dark silver mclaren that he keeps in storage in San Fransisco: "My Uncles is Silver/Greyish-Black. He dosent drive it to often, thats why its in a storage area in SanFran."
Woah, I just read his reply to when I told him only 1 LM is in america: "AND I have MET MARC and he has a MCLAREN F1 LM, SAME WITH ROBERT HEINZ! GET YOUE FRIGGIN FACTS STRIGHT , LOOK THEM UP, I HAVE THIER PHONE NUMBERS TOO, CALL THEM YOU YOU DONT BELIEVE ME. DAMN, YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT MCLARENS EGH!"

Some questions that came to mind when I read this ...
1. There's a lot of the McLaren Can Am racers floating around. Is that what he means? ie. they may own McLarens, but do they own the McLaren F1 roadcars?
2. And if they do own F1 roadcars, great, but they definitely do not own McLaren F1 LMs.
He seems to be adamant about them being LMs...you should ask for pictures.

"I used to be a valet at the Builtmore Resort in Phoenix, Arizona. As a valet at the Builtmore, I have drive many cars, you name it, there's a strong chance i've probably driven it. Anyways, Phoenix, Arizona is the home city of Frank Molina, heard of him? Mr. Molina is the proud owner of an F1 McLaren LM, he also dines regularly at the Builtmore. As one of the valets who have driven his F1 McLaren LM, i must say, it most definately is the best car i have ever driven, and i have driven many very fancy cars. Well... that was my response, feel free to reply to me if you want."
-------------------------------------------------
So, a friends uncle is a rich business man and I mean rich. He has an LM and he came over to England to see his brother and his nephew (my friend), I was with him when his uncle arrived and we got talking about how I love cars especially the McLaren F1, he says 'Oh really? You like LMs?' ME: 'Hell yes!' him 'Oh well, I own one', Me (knowing hes insanely rich) 'No way!'
'Yeh, its in Germany for Autobahn driving'.
I Call my friend over and was all like did you know and hes like, yup. His uncle then gave me and his nephew a offer I couldn't resist; 'Tell you what guys, do you want to come over to Germany with me and I'll take you around in the McLaren?' Me(going wobbly at the kneews): 'That would be amazing'
Fast foward a week and a half and he pays for us to fly in the daddy of all classes to Germany, we meet him in Germany and he goes and picks up the car and comes back to pick us up (My jaw dropped, amazing). After going around town he got onto the Autobahn, he cruised for about 10 miles and plastered the gas, the car leaped and the engine roared for our pleasure, we get up to 180mph and he dives in front a truck after seeing space and he hammered it probably approaching 200mph when he goes 'somethings wrong, the steering really light...'. Sitting in the car it felt skitty all of a sudden, so he pulls over... Not that far behind us the truck had pulled in aswell. We get out and HOLY FU--! NO WING!? We then saw the trucker get out and we went up to see him (just to see why he pulled over, after us all having a heart attack) we get closer and the radiator is steaming, get closer and realise unbelievably the wing of the LM had peirced through the grille of the truck and gone straight through the radiator!
Needless to say the trucker was pissed and we were amazed and upset. We proceeded to remove the wing from the grille/radiator. It was in one piece! Apart from the peice that failed which was only smallwhich was lodged next to the wing. I couldn't believe my eyes. So after giving the trucker good cash we went back to the car. We drove it slowly back to a garage where he stores it, he rings up McLaren and he gets the price, £14,000 ($25,000). He's not getting a new one thats just for attaching the peice that failed on the wing back on and remounting the wing itself. FUC-!
But for my friends uncle thats really not that much I suppose, but still alot for what it is and he won't be able to drive the car until McLaren send their mechanic over..."

"From what I hear there is 1 in Italy, 1 in Brazil, 1 in England, and I believe 1 in oh, was it Argentina?"

1) it is wrong
2) it is not an LM but a GTR or road car modified
3) it is an LM and there are more than 5 LM ! So, why not => it would means that Sultan of Brunei's LMs could be an extra like F50 !!!!!!!!!
It's amazing. If it is true, he could ask his friend to know VIN ?

The Bolide was a design study based on the F50GT. No cars were completed or delivered.
We do know of almost all the cars that the Sultan of Brunei has. The collection has been in receivership for the last 18 months. Cars are being released slowly, one or two at a time, and are usually on the market for less than 48 hours. Most of them are in poorly maintained condition and will require work to get them roadworthy again. Most of them are also going to buyers in Europe and Asia. These were the cars in the palace warehouses.
The whereabouts of the McLarens are unknown, but I have not heard about them being among these cars. Presumably, they are being counted as the Sultan's private property, and will never be sold. I wouldn't be surprised if some of them are kept at residences abroad --someplace like Switzerland or Monaco.

The Bolide was never made. It's possible he has the prototype that was put together to present the concept to him. But so far as I know and so far as the 1,000 plus photographs of his collection show, no completed Bolide was ever delivered to him.
If he has the prototype, it's just an F50 with a poorly fitting body shell on it.

I've been wondering why the Sultan has so many of the LM's (half, actually). It doesn't make any sense. Peloton basically summed up that question a few posts below.
Anyway, I like to have information all in one nice big chart, so I posted this one to help everybody, based on the info that Peloton and others have been able to collect. Parts highlighted in red are still yet to be confirmed.
PS: This is how I think it goes so far. IF ANYBODY CAN CORRECT IT, PLEASE DO SO.
----------
Chassis: LM01
Location: Brunei
Owner: Sultan (what's his name)?
Description: One of two Black LM's.
Chassis: LM02
Location: Japan or Brunei
Owner: .... or Sultan
Description: Papaya/Historic Orange
Chassis: LM03
Location: U.S.A. (Massachusetts)
Owner: Frank Selldorff
Description: Papaya/Historic Orange
*Note: according to Frank himself, this LM was previously owned by David Morisson, but he was forced to sell it due to legal reasons.
Chassis: LM04
Location: Brunei
Owner: Sultan (what's his name)?
Description: One of two Black LM's.
Chassis: LM05
Location: Japan or Brunei
Owner: .... or Sultan
Description: Papaya/Historic Orange
Chassis: XP1LM
Location: UK (Mclaren Factory)
Owner: Mclaren
Description Papaya/Historic Orange with black XP1 Badging
----------
Looking at the chart, you can see that we've completely confirmed the two LM's that we actually have photographs of: XP1 LM and LM03. We basically know the whereabouts of the two black ones (which are confirmed to exist...Mclaren doesn't lie). We don't know anything about the Japanese one (except that it's in Japan), and unfortunately unless somebody was to see it we don't know if it is Chassis 02 or 05. We may have photos of the Japanese one in that red GT car show, I'm not sure. Another good way to find info would be to go to Mclaren themselves, because while they were building the cars they must have took some pictures of each before setting them off into the world. That probably wouldn't be an easy task, though, because they might not be willing to confirm it. The key to solving the puzzle lies in the three LM's that the Sultan currently has ownership of, but since we'll never get any pics of them, we're going to have to assume that the Japanese LM is the only way we can confirm anything else. Can somebody please go to Brunei or Japan? :)

Well the LMs weren't "given" to anyone - people had to actually pay for them. As cool as it was, at the time there probably weren't too many people who wanted to pay 1.25 Million (or whatever the original price was) for a street legal race car. When you have a customer like the Sultan and his family members, who are willing to pay the price, why would you ever say no? I suspect that several of those people who might have been candidates for an LM were spending their money racing GTRs at the time. Some of those GTRs would eventually be converted for road use, effectively becoming somewhat of an LM if you think about it. Don't take that the wrong way though - they still aren't "LMs" in the true sense of things.
As for the cars - the Sultan most definitely owns the two black ones (LM1 & LM4) and one other LM. Mr Selldorff owns the third (LM3), and it was formerly owned by a Scottish economist named David Morrison. LM2 & LM5 are the ones who's location can not be confirmed. One is definitely in Japan, and the other would be the third Brunei LM. Besides XP1LM, there are no LMs in the UK at this time.

All right, I understand all this now, but what I still don't understand is what the Sultan does with all these cars. They must sit in sheds with tarps for their entire lives, otherwise somebody probably would have seen a picture. I was just wondering, who is the Sultan, like name wise, if you knew. I don't really care, it just looks better if you know his name on the chart. What about that Japanese one? Nobody knows anything about that one either? If it is really in Japan's collection you'd think somebody would have pictures or know something about it. Who's the owner? By the way, if anybody's seen those old pictures of the red F1 GT, I think the orange F1 you can see in the background could be the Japanese LM. Just a guess. Like before, I could be wrong.

yes, there is a burgundy gt, orange lm and an f1 road car in some guys collection in Japan as well as an F50 iirc. About what he does with the cars..he (sultans son, again, iirc. feel free to correct me) used to drive some of them around, not really the mclarens but the bentley javas (nice bentley coupe), dominators (nice bentley suv) etc until something happened (illegal i think) and his son was told to leave brunei. the cars were put away and now are just sitting in warehouses.....such a shame :(

No, you are right - those are the Japanese cars. No one has come up with any information on who the actual owner is yet though. I think DiabloFan said he knew, but he hasn't come back to share. Things keep coming out of the woodwork left and right though, so I'm sure we'll have it all narrowed down eventually.

This is what happens when someone has so much money they don't know what to do with it. A early roadcar came in from the Sultan to be refurbished at 'Cars before a resale and it was not in a good state. It had less than 50 miles on it but the paint was starting to peel and the tyres had gone hard. No wonder people dismiss the car as a rich man's plaything. No car deserves this kind of disrespect...

To be honest I can't remember but it was canary yellow (060?) and had the Sultan's crests above the locks as well as on the wheel bolts instead of the F1 logo.
