you don't need to get an XM head unit. remember you do have the additional unit and antenna also for XM

Sorry I forgot to mention that its an RDS system on the cav... does that make a difference??? Do i have to buy some BS part if i change it. My brother did in his S-10 X-Treme which had RDS in it.

Hi guys,
I own a 2003 Cav w/ XM GM-supplied. I am switching to an Alpine head unit that is XM ready. The Alpine cost 500 and the install cost me 700!
You have to buy a new XM tuner and a special part that allows you to keep your door chimes, etc. Otherwise, you have to keep the stock radio in the car (under a seat, etc)!
Not sure about the RDS, but I am sure it will cost you extra somehow. Seems that XM and GM got together and decided to really give it to us!
