Are 500+ AWHP STi Monsters Common?

I hear there are a few here that troll the street races in Ontario, CA. A couple in the 700 AWHP range as well. I am an STi newbie and was wondering if 500-700 was a realistic number. If so, what kind of numbers do 500-700 AWHP STis run @ the track? For the record, I roll a 475 RWHP, 490 RWTQ (SAE) '03 Cobra. Not looking to start trouble or troll, just curious. Thanks.

If you guys could also point me to another STi forum for further questions http://svr6.ehostpros.com/~socalwi6/phpbb2/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif .

I would not think they were common. It's not impossible by any means, I just wouldn't think they were common.

Not very common... 700 hp in an STI would translate to a ~high 9, low 10 times. I know easystreet sells their stage 3 regular WRX kit with an advertised 740 hp and there are a few people who actually bought these cars. The new STI hasn't been out very long and there aren't a huge amount of parts for the EJ25T out yet... (but give it time :grinyes: )

Possible, Yes, on a huge budget

You would have to replace a ton of driveline components first off. We all know about the infamus trannies on these guys right? Plus the cost of getting the engine up to par. Then getting the chassis and suspension to a state to put that power down.

Btw, a note on the trannies. I know there are tons of people who will say "Bullshit, I have seventeen zillion hp and I've never had problems" Ok, thats fine... Do you drag race your car?
The point were the trannie usualy goes is on launch. The case will twist ever so slightly and over time it will crack. Sure they have broken for other reasons but this is the usual suspect.

personally, awhp dont mean shit if you cant drive or handle it. i ran against an STI with 500awhp against my 95 M3 (which has about 275rwhp) and I beat it out. the reason why I beat him was I knew how to shift better than he did. you can have a car with 1000rwhp, fwhp, awhp and it doesnt mean anything unless you know how to drive it properly. Im sure that if you mod your STI without that much extra HP then you will most likely beat out those other STI's I could be wrong though. in a nut shell, it doesnt matter what you have, all that matters are the drivers.

Yeah, the driver really matters a lot. The car matters too. I've never seen a Subaru w/ over 400 hp, so I don't really think that it would be to common. It would take a ton of money too.

Yeah I gotta call BS on that. Unless the guy was fixing his hair in the rearview mirror between shifts. Nobody shifts THAT slow. :screwy:

Ahh, but you're forgetting, we're talking about an STi here. Completely different transmission. The old STi 6 speed had a reputation for being nearly bullitproof, and the new one was designed by Porsche to be even stronger. Now, if anyone knows how to make a manual trans that will handle lots of power through all 4 wheels, its Porsche...

could've been a track race, not a quarter.

True, but you would think he would have said he could drive better as in take corners better, not just shift better. And that's STILL far fetched. How slow would the STi have to be through the corners to not be able to catch up on the straights? Even if the M3 started in front, passing on the straights is easy, especially when you've got double the horsepower and a car geared for acceleration out of corners. Then once the STi passes, the M3 is gonna have to find a spot to pass in mid corner, cuz he sure as hell isn't gonna get around on the straights.

Well Guys I had a 475 HP '02 WRX first I blew the stock tranny like butter then bought the entire STI Drivetrain for about 11k then later blew the engine and then built a bullet proof one and ran 11.47 ET in 1/4 mile. It cost a total of 42K in all at the end to get it right. Then some dude from Guatemala contacts me and offers to buy the car for 75K. Well thats a no brainer, I sold it and bought the 2004 STI. Now let me tell you this, with this car I can see all the things that my WRX was missing, this car with less then half the money I spent on the WRX will be twice as fast. Trust me I know. This beast has tons more potential and is an all-round better platform for monster horses. I will start mods with the guys at APS who worked with me on the last WRX to get an easy and reliable 500+HP out of this puppy. Stay Tunned. By the way a 475 HP WRX is a tough cookie to control!!! TONS OF WHEEL SPIN and Massive G's. So I believe that its was hard to contol but you beating him with only 275HP its hard to see. If it was a road race and he was off the track or his lines suckes maybe but in a drag race NO F-ING WAY!!!

MY 2 CENTS!!

Later Yall. From Nice warm and Sunny Panama City, Panama (In central America for you guys still in first grade) ;)
