thats because the angle is different, hence the two seperate housings. im not sure if the high beams even have a different bulb, but i do know that the high beam section is angled differently than the lo beam section, so just switching the bulbs wont work

bulbs also cannot be interchanged...yes hi and low bulbs use different plugs...altogh you can modify the low plug to accept the hi beam bulb....only worth a lil extra light....not really noticable....

You can mod 9005 headlight bulbs to fit in your housing if you're looking for better light, but I have a feeling you're just looking for more coolness.

9005 Low Beam Conversion

http://vmac.org/~weston/teg/9005conv/3rdGenTegHeadlights.jpg

Want brighter headlights on your 3rd gen Integra? Don't spend lots of money on HID or even the cheap imitation HID bulbs! You can easily modify regular cheap high beam bulbs (65W, # 9005) to replace your stock low beams (55W, # 9006). They only draw about 18% (10W) more power, but are said to be 70% brighter. They are also noticably brighter than the imitation HID (30% Xenon filled) 80W bulbs that I previously used.

Before you do anything, you should know: It may not be legal in all areas. It may or may not cause damage to the car, the bulb, etc. I am not an expert and information on this page may not be accurate. Perform this modification or take my advice at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damages or problems of any kind.

My instructions for this mod are below, but you can also find some at: http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Upgrade/More_light.htm

The 9006 bulbs have the tip of the bulb covered to reduce the light output, but 9005's don't. I think that's a big part of why 9005's put out so much more light.

We need to make a 9005 bulb fit in a 9006 enclosure... They are very similar, but there are three important differences that we need to take care of:

1) The notches inside the connector (on the top of the inside) is different. There's one notch for 9006 and two for 9005. In the picture above, it's visible on the 9006 but not visible on the 9005. They are there to prevent us from plugging in the wrong kind of bulb, so we'll have to remove that restriction. The solution is to just remove the 2 notches from the 9005. I used a pocket knife, but it may also be possible to file it down or use a soldering iron to melt it.

2) The rubber ring is different size. The ring around the 9006 (red in the picture) is slightly larger than the ring on the 9005 (white in the picture). You just have to take the ring off of a spare 9006 bulb and add it to the 9005. You'll end up with something that looks like this:

http://vmac.org/~weston/teg/9005conv/mod-front.jpg

(Notice the red ring in addition to the white one)

3) The plastic is also a little different. It's just another way to prevent us from plugging in the wrong king of bulb, so we'll have to change that too. As you can see below, there is only one difference (top of pic, in the middle):

The notches in the middle (at the top of the pic) are opposite of each other. Get rid of the outside half of it so that only the part at the center is left. Once you've done that, you're all done! It should come out looking something like this:
