So I just drove my friends new RX-8. It was an automatic so it only had 197 HP, but for a small car, I figured it would be a rocket. Much to my surprise, it was pretty sluggish. My 190 HP "Family Car" with an automatic transmission is much more responsive.

I am sure that the MT version of the RX-8 is much more responsive with 250 HP and a 6speed, but still...

Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to really test the handling of it, but it did seem to handle nicely.

i have driven a 6 speed, and i have to say any qualms you have with the power of the crappy engine will be laid to rest if you drive it. oh, by the way, best handling car i have ever driven!!

They quoted a 0-60 (Magazine Race time) of 5.8 seconds to 60 and I believe they said the 1/4 came up in about 14.2 sec at 99 mph. Maybe a 2k2/2k3 can take him but I wouldn't even dream of trying him.
They have a high winding tach, I think it revs out to 9k, so you have to rev it pretty high from the start and dump the clutch to get a good enough launch to do the 5.8 it takes to get to 60.

Screw that, that is too much work, just give me a Z and I will spank his @$$ without all the clutch dropping drama.

I think that 5.8 time must have been a 6spd with the correct hp because most times i have seen for that car is 6.0 and saw on a RX-8 forum that some have only gotten 6.4 the same as a G35 sedan auto and Maxima manual.

They are both nice looking cars, I think the Z has nicer lines, but the RX-8 looks more aggressive. Hey, I would drive either one.

Being naturally asperated, the RX-8 has much lower low-end torque than the turbocharged models. When a supercharged or turboed model is available, the low end torque will certainly increase.

I saw $32,XXX for an auto at the local dealer, I think ~$34,XXX for the manual it just came in to the deal ther other day and I've not been out there to check it out.

Frankly I think they're all ugly, the RX-8 is a sedan that was kicked in the ass. The 6 is ok with an aero kit... I'm sorry for $32,000 I'd go buy a Z or a S2000 and kick the shit out of that POS. Stupid Fords...

Most of the Honda guys are pretty cool, it's just those Ricertypes with their "I can beat everything because I have a FastnFurious Civic with the big Fartcan exhaust and huge Tachometer on my dash" attitude that aren't cool.

I talk daily with Honda guys here and for the most part 99% of them respect Nissan, especially the Max, Z/G and the Skyline, they even admit that Maximas own them unless they are boosted some kinda way.

I just wouldn't go over to a Honda forum where those Ricertypes hang out at and try to convince them of anything remotely pertaining to our cars because they'll start talking that "Well we can make our cars faster easy just by adding">whatever, your input here.

yeah it's a 1.3 renesis rotary. 250 hp 159 torque. low ass torque but it's a rotary so it makes up for some of the lack of torque. i like them they have potential and eventhough it is a ford, so is aston martin.

Mazda is owned by Ford, therefor, it's a Ford. As I said the RX-8 is fugly it looks like a Sedan that was kicked in the ass. I have no input on the Renesis engine, I've HEARD it's supposed to be more reliable, and heard RUMORS that the RX-7 is to return? No idea but one thing is for sure the Renesis is one light ass engine, so who knows maybe they'll turn out Ok, though that doesn't change the fact they're ugly as hell. :2cents:

Whoever got that time must have been testing it downhill. I test drove this car - was gonna buy it for my wife. It is sluggish in 1st gear - you have to wind it up to about 8k rpms before you get any power at all. Same thing in all the gear - gotta keep the rpms through the roof to get any giddy-yup. Most Maximas will blow the doors off the rx-8.

Oh and by the way the rx-8 is sexy as hell. It looks to me like an old 60's british Bond-type car. Friggin beautiful. Sexy yes, but performance is nowhere near advertised.

a 1995 5 speed maxima weighs 2895 lbs, i had one buddy and the weight is right on the registration. i don't remember ever having a conversation or dispute about weight of a maxima and i don't need a little weiner like you to tell me anything about a 4th gen max, not because i know everything but because you're just a fuckin' jerk-off and i'd tell you to prove that we even had the afore mentioned conversation but i think the rest of this forum is beginning to realize that you like to make unsubstantiated claims with no intention of backing them up.

i also have my brochure from my 95 and while it does say 3010 on the back page, that's where a wonderful thing called options come in to play. leather seats vs cloth seats could make the dif of 15 lbs, as could heated seats, dual power seats, fog lights, a spoiler, six speaker bose system, and of course the sunroof which was optional on all models. not to mention you're picking apart my response too much. that's the exact number on the registration from my 95 so that's what i tell people it weighs. if a person said "what's the weight on a 95 maxima" i'd say "3000lbs", i wouldn't really be wrong, would i? now stop being retarted.

I just recently read that the S2000 is getting updated for 2004. Its getting a rework on the rear suspension. Red line is dropped to 8k instead of 9 to better compete with the RX8 and has about 12 ft of tq and tq and hp maxes out at a lower rpm rage . This would mean faster 0-60 times if done better. Also 2005 RX-8 is going to get their hp fixed to get what they are suppose to be getting.

yeah they increased the displacement to a 2.2 from a 2.0 so you don't have to rev it so high to get good performance out of it.
