DIY Exhaust?

How difficult would it be to fabricate an exhaust for a car, with oxy/acetylene by an average welder? I'm not planning to do it with my current car, but I was wondering how hard it would be.

not all that hard at all.....just need to get the right peices to make your bends as well as the straight pipes....i wouldnt recommend gas welding it together though....its a butt harder as you have to heat the metel before you apply the wire....its much easier with a mig welder.

Yeah thats what I thought. I was thinking using a mig welder and a pipe bender, then buying some flanges. If I just took off the stock exhaust, and copied the design, it couldn't be to hard.

Seems like more ppl would have tried this, seeing that by doing this you could save several hundred $$.

yeah, if you dont have a welder, mandrel bender, then you will wpend over the cost of exhaust on those, unless you get a really good deal on some used.

I was thinking of just buying a used mig welder, because it's a nice thing to have, and renting a mandrel bender.

yeah, the wire feed is a nice thing to have, last place i rented there was one in the shop and it came in handy a few times.

DIY for $65......peice together different bends and straight pipes clamped together to make ur exhaust....who said you had to buy a welder? or mandrel bender for that matter....did you know after half way through the exh system the exh looses velocity and a mandrel bend axle back will not gain you any more than a crush bend exh with the same muff and pipe size.....

well, when iyt huits the halfway point, wouldnt the gases behind it that still is moving fast, keep it moving fast the whole way out though?

Either way, it couldn't hurt to use a mandrel bender for the whole thing.

you wont lose nor gain having mandrel halfway through the car.....if you can do the madrell....do it...better in the long run if you go FI.
