I am thinking of buying a 96 or 97 BMW 740il. Please let me know if there is any problem with this car? Please help. Thanks in advance.

i have a 97 740il and the only problem is excessive noise at the windshield due to the method used to vent air. sounds like it is the sun roof but it is not. have had 2 shops mess with it and it is no better. noise is most obnoxious at 35 to 55 mph. above that road noise cancels it out. i have a friend with the same one and he has the same problem.check it out.dg

I have the same whooshing sound in a 98 7er. The dealer said the windowshield was replaced by a third party glass co. (I am second owner) and that it was installed 4mm too high. Thus the aerodynamics of the slipstream up the windscreen and over the roof were changed. They suggest that next time the windshield is replaced that it be done by a BMW dealer, who have the appropriate tools and experience to make sure it is fixed properly.
It makes less noise with the moonroof shade closed but still spolis the quiet parts of favorite tracks. It is the only remaining issue with an otherwise perfect machanical specimen.

My 97 has suffered the following in 70,000 miles; radiator, water pump, windage tray (fuel injection system); driveshaft center bearing; and this week, a leak in the bottom of the radiator expansion tank. However, all has been covered under warranty. It is still not the car my 86 MB 420SEL was , but close.
