Boo Switch

I read here about the switch which allows me to shift out of park. I checked it and it seems to be hanging, it will only allow me to reset it once and then it does the same thing. I called a Ford dealer and they said I need a new brake switch and it would be about $150. Is the little boo thing the brake switch they are talking about? Thanks!!

Mine was $9.96 from Napa... I think they are selling you the wrong thing :)

My friend is a mechanic but she has three little kids but today she came over and I made she and the kids eggs benedict and she looked at my car and got the switch for 9.99 at NAPA...

Thank you all for your help, I am so glad I did not spend $150.00 on that, because my Explorer really needs the $$ help!!

Hey - I'm certifiable! :cwm27:

Seriously, the bottom of your Explorer looks like Swiss cheese? Just the exhaust pipe, or has rust eaten the undercarriage?

Hey don't we need to scoot over to the Explorer page to discuss this? We are infringing on the Taurus space?

Well it looks a little funny under there (which is the undercarriage?). I hesitate to describe it here because it will become hideously clear that I am blonde.

There are two mufflers under there, a little one and a big one and the little one is the swiss cheese. I used to think the previous owner lived on a beach because the paint on the vehicle is oxidized. Then I read that those for a few years Ford used bad paint. But seeing underneath it takes me back to the surfer owned it idea. Alot of things are looking a little corroded under there.

So I am just going to have that exhaust stuff replaced and then get the door hinges replaced. Yes that is a problem, passenger door doesn't like to shut anymore.

See why it is my project?

Does the boo swith also control the brake lights? Or does this only control being able to shift from park?

I have a problem with shifting out of park intermittenly. and the brake lights are erratic.
thank you

I would say you have a problem with your boo switch, however what do I know, I am just a dumb blonde. BUT I referred this to the guy who answered my problem and I had a friend replace it, it cost 9.95 at NAPA. Eventually you will be in the parking lot at Fred Meyer on your lunch hour and you will not be able to get out of park at all. In that case put the key in accessory mode and put car in N and start it and go straight home, you have no brake lights!!

BOO Switch stands for "Brake On/Off" Switch, and yes it controls the brake lights. Someone at Ford has a weird sense of humor... worse than mine! :screwy:

The switch is mounted right at the brake pedal. Just get under there and look for the thing that two wires are going to. That's it. You might even get lucky and be able to blast it out with WD-40 and not have to replace it at all! They're not too hard to clean the contacts on, once they're out.

I cleaned mine recently, but then I'm cheap, too. :evillol:

Edit: Browneyedgirl is no dumb blonde!! I have a picture to prove it...
