REAR S15 Conversion??

Hey wassup. I own a 1998 240sx SE and I have seen so many 240s with S15 front-end (lights, hood ect.) conversions, but never a rear one. So i was just wonderin if anyone has ever done it, or if it is even posible. The 1998 is an S14a (S141) which is similar to the S15 so my guess is that it wont be TOO hard. I could get all the parts needed (trunk, side fenders, rear lights) but I dont know if it would fit. Any info would be great.

You haven't see it done because it would be easier to just try to get an s15 imported...though more costly you will spend a lot for purely asthetic body work. If you want a s15 rear I think your best best is to get a rear clip from an s15 imported and then do some gonzo work trying to cut your car and weld/beat on the s15 panels and supports. I think that is the easiest way since the panels won't line up properly on an s14...sorry.
I think this should be in the FAQ if it isn't already since it's been asked like 4 times since I joined.

yeah, this should be in thw FAQ.
"REAR S15 CONVERSIONS.
don't do them."
honestly. if you have an S13 or S14, be proud of what it is and don't try to make it look like a different car that it isn't. if you want an S15, spend the money to get a real one. even if you do turn your S14 into an S15, it'll look all weird and not right at all. the cars don't have the same contour or body silohouette. with the money you'd probably spend, you most likely could afford an entire S15.

the only reason you would do that is for "rice"
get that out of your head.... rice doesn't exist in the land of 240sx's. don't ask it here unless you want to get beaten. ask your honda friend.

Not that I dont like the S14 rear, i just wanted to know if it was possible. Mabey you should tell the people who swap to the SR (not that I am against that since that is an AWSOME engine, and that i swaped to 1 :) ) the same thing. Since the S15 was never givin in Left-hand-drive, it would cost ALOT more to convert it then to do a body conversion (since the DOT does not accept RHD cars being similar to the LHD legal versions). Plus, noone has ever done crash tests that the DOT would accept. Anyway, thanx klohiq.

S15 was never in the states so it doesn't matter whether it's right or left hand drive...there's nothing in america for it to be substantially similar to. You CAN leave it LHD when importing it. There are two ways to import it: as a track car which will never be road legal and I believe it can never be made road legal after that or road legal and then it has to pass DOT crash tests and EPA emissions testing. The engine was never over here so that will also have to be checked out and passed. A lot of work for an s15, but if I ever have the money I'd do it definitely. You might get a break if you are in the military since they sometimes help people pass or avoid having to do all the testing to bring the car back over to the US.
Personally I don't think it's rice to convert the rear of an S14 to an S15, but it is a waste of money.

What about the rear suspension?
Can you adapt the rear subframe to the S13?I think I saw someone post something about that a long time ago..

Considering the SR20DET is standard in S14's in some markets, makes swapping it fine, and hardly 'rice'. But in no market, did the S14 have a S15 rear end, so swapping it would be a waste of both an S14, and the rear of an S15.
And commenting on your first post, an S14/S14a rear end doesn't really look anything like an S15 rear end. Putting them side by side, there is a huge difference in height, and looks. In my opinion, an S15 rear end on an S14 would look odd, and retarded.

i will have to agree on this one... it would look strange and cost way too much... just be happy with what you have, you have a 98 which has an awesome look (im converting my 95 to kouki because its way more aggressive and sexy) ... s15 front conversion requires aftermarket fenders and thats something i don't want... all oem over here, so im getting a kouki conversion... seriously though get you some fat ass wheels/tires and be a happy 240sx owner lol

yeah im definitly going to sell them ... they are in prime condition so im sure someone will want them ;) (im also putting the kouki side skirts and rear tails, so my 95 tails will be for sale as well, but all this won't be happening until my engine swap is done and who knows when that'll be)

O well... Now that i think about it I agree wit most of u that it would look kinda weird (some of you might say stupid) to convert the rear end, but I just dunt think that its really "Rice" to do that, and even though look wierd, it might be pretty cool. If you think that the rear end is "rice," then what about all those front end conversions??? Its all the same. I personally love the front end of the 98 and the back of the 15, so I thought why not have both. Its not like i have a 10 foot wing with a body kit that looks like a spaceship. If you think that convertin the rear "rice" and the front not, then thats your problem because its like youre sayin "its ok if everyone else is doin it, but if you want to be different and try somethin else out is "RICE." Ahhh who cares....I might as well get the 15......i wish

why do you people rag on him for askign if it is possible to put a S15 rear end on an S14? I men your changing your 95-96 S14 to look like the 97-98, or making your S13 240's look like the S13 silvias, I don't see anything wrong with dropping in an SR or getting 180sx tail lights or any of that, but just don't use crap thats not meant for you model of car, if you have a 95 and they look different in japan, by all means make it look like the one in japan, but don't make it look like the 97-98's from japan or even hear because thats not what you have and it never will be, I mean if your gonna change it in the first place make it the same same style atleast or else don't yell at this guy for saying is it possible to do this or has it ever been done?

I want a Kouki because it will have less miles and it came in that nice dark metallic green (though I would have to paint the zenki quarters to match, but I'm confident I can do it). I might get a zenki if no 97/98s are around since either is quite rare for any driveable distance...
A trade could work, but I'm not sure how soon you want to do the conversion. I won't have enough for a 98 for quite a while maybe, 500-750 a month savings probably and a max loan amount of probably 1000-2000 unless I can convince my parents to co-sign. If you want to wait though I would be fine with it...not sure if we would meet up some where or just send the stuff out in the mail...no offense, but I would prefer to meet up just so I'm not stuck with no front end either from you not sending it or the shipping losing it.

You're right, you do have your opinion and that is fine that you think of it like that. What I was saying is that people can't say "you shouldn't do it." exactly,it is a lot of trouble,a lot of time,a lot of money, and the rest of the chasis won't be in proportion with the tail end.It would be the like the guy who stuck a Nissan Skyline front and rear end on a 95 Integra, just wouldn't be right.Your probably better of getting the proper visa and moving to Japan, than going out to do the conversion.I'm sure everybody here loves the S15 rear end,but it would be just better to keep the strawberry face.

I think getting a Visa would be cheaper and easier than doing the S15 ass conversion.
Did I mention moving to Japan costs 10s of thousands of dollars, and they have EXTREMLY though immigration programs.

Wow, i didnt think that question was gunna start all of this, lol. I dont think that it would look all out of proportion cause you could get a strawberry face right of a stock 15 (hood, front bumper, fenders, lights). But i also see what you mean about something about it just not being right. But this isnt like an integra with skyline body parts. Those look TOTALLY different. Anyway, i dont want to argue (even though i am), and even though i usually dont care about what people say, i dunt want to be shunned by half of the 240sx community. I also see what you mean when you say that the S14 was made to look the way it is and the 15 the way the 15 is supposed to be. But mabe 1 day when i have 1 too many drinks, and have a back half of a S15 lying around, ill do it. But for now, im just gunna sit back and enjoy my 240. Intstead of the conversion (for now ;)), ill spend the money on the engine and suspesion. Cant go wrong with that :D!

You will be shunned by like, 9/10ths of the 240 community dude.
The S14 was made to look that way, and the S15 was made to look that way because of something called R&D. These cars were built from the ground upwards. The chassis and structure are different. You fuck with that, and your car will be VERY dangerous. I.e, you crash and you DIE because you have no support. Even for track racing, your car wont be as rigid, cuz you;ve been cutting and re-welding.

I think race cars are race cars and show cars are show cars. If you are gonna be dragging or drifting, don't chop shit up. Like Doriken said, you'll DIE. :) Stability is a good thing.
But I've seen photos of a convertible Silvia. I wouldn't suggest drag racing with it but I could handle driving that thing around campus all day long.

Actually, if the convertable you're talking about was an S15, then it might've not been a conversion. It could've been a Silvia Varietta, which I'm pretty sure was pretty much a SR20DE'd, non-turbo, retractable hardtop S15. I'm not sure if you ment ragtop or hardtop.

...These cars were built from the ground upwards. The chassis and structure are different. You fuck with that, and your car will be VERY dangerous. I.e, you crash and you DIE because you have no support. Even for track racing, your car wont be as rigid, cuz you;ve been cutting and re-welding.
I didnt even think of that. My car is a daily driver, i drag (only on tracks :)), and i plan to circut race on a track (if i can find 1 near New York city). At first i thought i could just treat this as a body kit (only having to modify the mounting brackets), but the more i think about it and the more info i find out, that it isnt that simple at all. I would have to do MAJOR work, weakining the body of the car. I always drive my car hard and if something ever happens....I dont even want to think about it. Thanx Dorikin for bringing this up.

I'm looking at the photo now and it is definately an S15. Can't tell the type of top from the photo. At time of photo the car was candy red with some weird black tribal graphic on the hood. An SR20DET powered Varietta, that would be a sick ride for cruising South Beach. :)

Oh snap, that is the car. And it's even close to the paint color I'd shoot a Silvia with, that blue is great. Is that a Varietta? I wish Motorex or someone would start bringing those over. I'd probably want to hire a bodyguard for it, though. haha
