Way too fast idle S-10

Hey. Question:
Immediately after starting, the idle revs up to like 8000 rpm, then slowly down to normal. Anyone know what the problem could be? I recently threw the belt, due to the lugs on the AC compressor literally breaking (whats up with that?) Anyway, I just by-passed the compressor and now I have this idle thing. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
