had fun n games yesterday going to my model shop.

frist bus ticket machine was bust so i couldn't buy a cost saving area ticket,
2nd bus to get me out to the model shop, broke its drive train n couldn't move.
and when i finaly get there they closed wednesday's ;(

phoned them up today n found out it would have been a waste of time going as they don't stock detail glue or softener, or any of the modelers masking tape's ;(

so now need to find a good mail order supplier in the uk to get them from

Man, that sucks. Lady luck was against you that day.

About the glue, softener, and tape. You should request that maybe they consider stocking those items. I'm sure you can't be the only one in your area that needs those things. Sometimes if enough people bring it up, they'll order some. My local shop didn't carry Alclad II paints. I asked them about it awhile back, and the guy told me, "Yeah, we've had a few people ask about that." I guess enough people asked because a month or so later, they got the whole lineup of Alclad stuff.

Where do you shop then SirWelshy???
I live in Carterton just west outside of Oxford and there's a good local model shop near me. (but it also shuts early on a Wednesday, bless... Country life!).
If your near to Swindon there's a great model shop there (call 118118 or what ever and ask for the Swindon model centre)..
They get new Tamiya stock in every week and have loads of kit I'll never been able to find in Oxford!

I have to drive like 45min to get to a somewhat decent hobby store :banghead: and they don't have Tamiya Sprays! And if I want masking tape I have to drive another 15min to go to another hobby store :crying:

I stoped going to mine (Venture Hobbies in Wheeling, IL) after I saw their price increases. I can understand Tamiya kits being expensive... they have to pay for the freight and certain taxes on the import of those kits, but when they sell a Revell kit (Which is located 15 mins away in Morton grove, IL) for $17.99 and walmart sells its for $10.30, thats when i draw the line.

They do carry some Tamiya paints but no finishing supplies... and when i asked them if they had rubbing compound... they said the wax was the same.

I now order of Ebay and sometimes HLJ, I bet i could order a revell kit from japan and still be cheaper than these guys :)

my 2 cents

my 3 local hobby shops are alright. kits cost around AU$50 each, so more than double than from HLJ. yet they stock every single tamiya colour, putty, glue (even bottled ones), compound, styrene sheets in every thickness, brushes, metal pipes (for mufflers), rims (cost AU$20 each!!!) I can't complain. Order kits and spraypaint from HLJ, and buy everything else locally :>
