I'm gonna pick up a 1995 Stock Firebird 3.4L v6 tomorrow. What kind of cars can this car beat in a race, which cars should I stay away from...and anyone know what the 95 stock can do in the 1/4?
Finally...what aftermarket mods would any of you recommend to be my first 5 and in what order..what are the benefits...and how much would you say it would run me for each mod?
Thanks for your time!
Cheers

Hmm I'm not sure what kind of performance a V6 FireBird has but I know they aren't all that well known for it, Best bet would be to get a 350 crate motor which can be had for a few grand and they make decent power thats about the only thing I can think of.

:iagree: but if you want to keep the six i know there are bolt ons for the 3.4 motor like headers ehxhaust intake cam pullies are what i'd say

Personally, I'd do the exhaust first.. just because it sounds cooler and a little bit more power. Then I'd go with some sort of intake. then gut the cat or just get straight pipe. then a higher stall torque converter and some steeper gears.

To be completely honest...I wouldn't bother trying to race a 3.4L V6 Firebird... its just a bad platform to build from.
If you want to race around, i'd say at least the 3.8L V6 its got a little better aftermarket support. But if you're serious I really suggest saving up a little extra and getting the Trans Am with the V8... you'll be much happier in the long run.
Cause the 3.4L has 160hp stock, 3.8L has 200hp, the 5.7L has a slightly underated 275hp.
But don't let me stop you! If you find a way to get a 3.4L Firebird to scoot right along, i'll give you tons of props.

I owned a 88 firebird with a 3.4L swap and it was zippy...not fast...not quick...zippy. Your fooling your self if you expect anything more, after all it is just a bored out 2.8. The car was a fun car to drive, but it isn't a champion racecar, plus it had a nifty little quirk of downing an incredible amount of gas for the little amount of power it made. I think the same gnomes that were hiding my car keys in the couch every night were syphoning my gas as they left. Anyways, it is fun to drive, but be realistic and don't expect ridiculous performance. As for racing it, I raced my brother (1990 Integra RS, Manual) and he was a hair faster...maybe a tenth. If you are adamant about racing it, there is some aftermarket support for that motor, NOS makes a nitrous kit for em. No supercharger kits were made for that motor, and if you want a turbo your gonna have to do a custom kit. All the boltons should be easy to find, but if you want something more significant, the nitrous kit is the way to go.

I have a 3.8 96 Camaro and i'm running low 15's in the 1/4. From what i've seen the 3.4's run high 16's pretty much 17 flat stock. If you want to get a firebird and not pay the insurance for a V8, but still be fast and powerful, i would get a 96 or newer V6 firebird. 200hp stock, which beats 93-96 4.6L mustang gt's depending on if you are a good driver, i know i've done it so dont event try and argue it. 3.6L v6 f-body is a perfect sleeper car.

i meant 3.8 at the end there. also you can mod your car and use nitrous and get your 3.4 into the 15's maybe even 14's.
