I can't get my shifter into 3rd or 4th gear. It is apparently a shift linkage problem. Anyone know if I have to remove the tranny to get inside it to fix the shift linkage problem? Thanks.

I had a similiar problem in first and second gear. No, I did not have to remove the transmission. What I did was remove the shifter and assembly so the I could see into the transmission from the top inside the vehicle. There should be a rolled pin in the shifter assembly on top that has sheared in half. You need to drive this pin out without dropping it into the transmission and then replace it. The pin costs less than a dollar and can be found at Ace Automotive or Ace hardware. If this is not the problem your syncros are probably shot and need to be replaced.
