e brake tighten

my e brake doens't keep my car from rolling down a hill at all - unless i break my arm pulling it up to the highest level it goes. how can i tighten it so i don't need to yank on the lever so much - i'm getting my brake pads changed out - would the chumps at big o know what to do to tighten it?

Good question. I, too, would like an answer. My friend said he did it on his but isn't sure if he did it correctly. My ebrakes just suck, period.

On a 40 roll, it just slowed to a stop, not that "ERRRRRRRRR" that everyone else gets.

I have that problem too, but not as severe as needing to break my arm :wink: . One thing I do is, pull it up hard one time, put the ebrake back down, and pull it hard up again.. it bites better the second time. Also, if you remove the rear wheels, theres a little wheel with a bunch of spikes sticking out of it. You can turn that little wheel with a flat head screw driver. If I remember correctly, the wheel is located towards the rear of the drum and on the bottom. Hope that helps.

That's the self tightener, and should always be adjusted after every brake job, and can also be done periodically to ensure proper brake usage. This only applies to rear drum brake cars. It's located on the inner side of the drum brake usually at the bottom, and sometimes has a rubber grommet covering the service hole. This should be tightened just enough where you feel the rear brakes start to grab if turning the wheel by hand.

after you get your brake job done you should be good to go ... my ebrake in the civic used to suck, but now i hardly have to pull on it and can do ebrake slides pretty easy (although i dont cause the subs move)

turn the wheel towards the curb and put her in gear along with the ebrake...that should hold!
