Fuel filter? problems...

I recently replaced the fuel filter on my '96 Ford Escort LX, and I think that my recent problems have something to do with this. Basically, every once in a while as I'm driving my car starts jerking as though it's not getting enough gas, and I've also lost some gas mileage. I've checked the gas lines where they enter and exit the filter, they're not twisted at all, and seem to be connected properly..
The filter that I replaced was factory I think, and the car was a bit over 180,000 kilometers, so it probably needed it pretty badly.
Think it has something to do with the filter? or could there be a problem with the fuel line or pump? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I duno, but I wish I did! :naughty:
Mine's doing EXACTLY the same thing. I started noticing it about a month or two ago, but only at about 60 MPH or so - and only when going up a slight incline. For the last week it's been happening at ANY speed... :cwm27:
I hate being broke.... :icon16:

A faulty fuel pump usually leaves you stranded after the first or second incident. If you're able to get the car running once, you're lucky. Twice -- it's a miracle. Where your problem lies is most likely the MAP sensor. Connecting the car to a diagnostic computer will download all the error codes, and probably point to the MAP sensor. They run $65 or so. Symptoms include engine cutting out sporadically (but if you step down on the gas, you can actually accelerate), decreased gas mileage since it's running too rich, black smoke/exhaust. Hope this helps.

Same problems with the mass air flow sensor. Clean it and reset the computer.
