This saturday history was made. D1 Drifting came to the states for the first time ever, and it was spectacular. Irwindale Speedway (Los Angeles, CA) hosted the first ever American Driftt competition, and the top 10 drifters from the Jaapanese series were there to kick things off. If you were there, then you will know what that means, and if you missed it... :nono:
The competition included a total of 28 drivers, all with completely modded s13's, s14's, s15's (Nissan 180sx, 240sx), RX-7's, Supra's, 350Z's, a Toyota Soarer (large Lexus coupe), and the venerable Toyota Trueno AE86 (RWD Corrola). They used these fantastic cars to drift around the track with style and "coolness", gloriously melting their tires to a thunderous exhaust note. With the fragrance of atmospheric Yokohama and Falken tires in the air, the competetors glided sideways, full trottle around the turns, streaking just inches from the wall.
The trunout for this event was immense, being the largest crowd Irwindale has ever had. Fans from all over the state showed up, judging from the many beautiful rides in the parking lot with out-of-state plates.
I'll post some pics and video as soon as me friends and I can sort through them. If you want to get the complete commercial video of the event it should be availlable through Video Option. Hope to see you all at next years competition, cause D1 Drifting is here to stay!
