Need Car suggestions

Hello, I am hoping that some fellow maxima owners could offer some suggestions on helping me pick out my next automobile. Right now I drive a 1990 maxima, and unfortunely, it is now time for me and her to part. Well, I want a 2 door car this time, not a sedan, so the maxima is out of the question. I am looking for a car with potential. I'm on a tight budget, only have about $8,000 to spend. I've been thinking hard about a Prelude or an Integra, maybe even a 240sx. I want something that has enough power to make me happy (more than my 160hp VG engine), and wont cost me an arm and a leg to modify. I want to stay away from domestic cars because of their unreliablility. So...what are y'all suggestions? If you were in my sitituation, what cars would you be considering?

Yeah you should then get an Integra or Prelude. If you want power to come with the Integra, you would want the GSR(5spd) 0-60 in about 7 seconds. If you look hard enough, you can find a 94-95 prelude with the VTEC engine, those are really quick for what you pay for(0-60 in about 6.7 sec) but they are also very rare. Good Luck!

Get a nice 4th gen or 5gen Max. Or if you got some cash get a 300ZX.

I said I don't want a sedan. I was thinking about a 300zx for awhile, and even though I want one really bad, I can't afford the insurance at my age. I am thinking about getting a 240sx and doing the RB25DET(skyline) engine swap. That would be very interesting :)

240sx, 200sx SE-R, NX200. I'm not a big fan of hondas so I won't tell you to get one. The 200sx and the NX both have the SR20DE in them, that thing is capable of handling a lot of power.

insurance is a bummer .. i would go 300zx but hey why not go with a 240 ? and the insurance is cheaper .. the 240 is a nice looking car. my sister had a 88 or 89 model and it was cool ... but anyways if you are going to make modifications to the car, sounds good to me.
if i had 8,000 to spend i would look long and hard for the best possible choice so... do your homework ! :evillol:

Man, you really took a lot of choices away from yourself by limiting your choices to solely imports, if you were to pick any domestics you'd have more choices.
You may even be lucky enough to find a couple of old Vettes for 8g's that are really fast and can still be modded, plus look good, then again at your age Insurance may still be a factor.
So right now I'd say your best bet is a 240 or Lude, I wouldn't only commit to being totally Nissan either but stock for stock for vehicles in the same class the Nissan engine has more torque & hp, plus the mod potential of the smaller 2.0 litre engines is basically unlimited and hella fast.
Good luck but it looks like 2 doors import it's only 200SX, 240, Lude, Civic, Celica, Tiburon, Suburu Impreza and a few others.

If you want a nice car and can find it I say go for Toyota Celica GT-S four it comes with like a awd 227hp turbo and the only year I think its was made was 98 because its a street version of the Celica rally car.

Hey, thanks for the replys. The reason I want to stick with imports only is because I have had many bad expiriences with domestic cars breaking down. They cost less to repair, but they crap out on you twice as often. I was very tempted to buy a corvette I saw for 6 grand, but then my dream ended when i realized that insurance would be more than the car is. I'm seriously considering buying a cheap 240sx and swapping in the RB25DET engine. I've seen a few around that look pretty good, but run like crap. That is just what I need to pull this off. It would cost me altogether about 7 grand, and I would have one monster of a car. Plus, the insurance would still be cheap. It wouldn't be too hard to pass an inspection with it. I'll just slide the guy doing the inspection a 20 :)

That is a good choice the 240sx. Have you thought about a turbo awd street rally celica? It's easier to mod since it comes with a turbo standard. All you got to do is put a 65 buck boost controler and a larger intercooler for $350+ and you can get anywhere from 10-100hp+ with that setup depending how the turbo boosted at. But the 240sx is a nice car tho.

I was looking for a Celica, but there isn't really any for sale around here. I found a nice looking 240sx with semi-low miles for its age, he wants 2,000 for it. It looks like a perfect project car.

Infinity G35 Coupe is a beautiful car. That's what I would get.

Um, I think your talking about the celica GT-4, or Alltrac depending on where you live.
The Alltracs have been around since the mid to late 80's. Being the ST165, ST185 and ST205. They're AWD and turbo charged but they were made for a long time, not just one year. The 165 is the lightest, the 185 is considered by many as the best looking and the 205 is just too damn heavy even though it looks great.

Well then thank you for correcting me but from what I read it was only made every certain year limited production so they can have a powerful car for rally. But yeah I would get the old body one I think its the 205 but dunno much about them but from what I hear the awd system is kick ass.

Well, the G35 is nice but he said his budget was 8000. Unless you know someone who can really hook you up, the G35 is out of the question.

Why does everyone always spell it (Infiniti) wrong? Maybe they should change the label to ETERNITY, that way no one confuses INFINITI the car company with infinity<something that last forever.
