Pulled a 5.0 Mustang

Well, I really didnt expect to be typing a kill story but I was on the Parkway yesterday going to my girlfriends...I came out of the toll booth and I heard a loud car coming up on me... A white early 90s 5.0 Stang goes by me with some punks in it. Now, I have no idea what was done to it, but it did have exhaust, cutouts, or no cats because it was pretty damn loud. But whatever, I got up next to him, we were both going around 70-80mph not dead sure, he downshifted and nailed it, I was already in 4th, so I nailed it about the same time, we stayed even until I hit my about 5500 and I started to pull away from him! We went to about 130 and when I braked he was about 3 cars back! I was pretty pysched! But he wasnt, because he immediately went past me, then slowed down a lot, to about 60 and waited for me, so I get next to him again, and he drops it, now I drop into 3rd and I am at my sweetspot, like 4800-5000, I nailed it 1st this time, he followed but I pulled away from him pretty nicely the entire time...shut down at 100mph bc there was a cop hideout ahead.. well overall good race - I am impressed with my car to some extent, I sold my DSM to stop racing (as much as I miss it), I never thought Id still be whooping Mustangs in my Accord! Usually no one tries to race me cause they figure, eh its an Accord! Oh well! Pce!

Quick question from a stick newbie.
I seem to chirp my tires alot more than I should (I think?) between shifts.
Is this normal?
Also, at pickup speeds during high revs, my steering seems to pull to the right. This also occurs at breaking which sometimes bothers me cause I feel its the breaks doing this.
Overall this beast is amazing. My last vehicle was a 2000 Blazer 4 Door, and this baby got me off the SUV kick.
Funny, when I said Honda to my GF, she thought I was going to get her an CRV :p

Any tips on driving this puppy would be nice cause my last stick was back in 87 using a GMC 65' pickup truck with Posi :)
I've already logged 2000KMs (1200miles) in less than a month:P
Good thing Im parking it for the winter months (3 to 4 months) cause I dont think I would survive driving this on ice/snow:P

Nice job on that Stang. These 03s have are a real quick car.

anim8 - if your chirping your tires, you may want to take a look at the traction of those tires. Unless you are on cold pavement they shouldn't be doing that.

well that could be it... how new are the tires. check alignment, that could explain the pulling. if it isn't allignment, it could be ware. check scrach marks. where are they pointing. (intheory: if to the right. that will explain the pull) sometimes. when under power. wheels torque, once they ware slanted then they pull more. I am not an expert on this. but that happened to my sisters honda. same thing. (when under power, pulled to the right. ) all so check tread depth on inside of tire and outside. (another way of sensing ware.)

Just wanted to say that I recently took a 4.6 stang, which was a piece of cake in my 6spd. It was obviously stock. However, just a few days ago got into it with a Probe, I know it had done alot of cosmetic work but I am not sure about the engine mods. Anyway, this probe cat got on it (we were already doing about 85mph) and I decided to give him a head start of a car length to make it interesting. It was noticebly harder than I thought though. he gave me more problems then the gt stang??? I still ended up 1.5 car lengths in front of him by the time I hit 128 and decided to back off cuz the wifey had sucked the entire seat up in her ass at that point :naughty:.

This thing is fast, I'm just wondering what was in that probe to make it faster than the gt?

Accord is a nice car but generally speaking do you honestly believe that it could beat a V8 rear drive Mustang with gobs of power and torque. I am not trying to flame you or any Accord fans but come on get serious!

I do believe it because I've done it in my 6spd. Granted the times I have done it we were already going around 30mph comming out of a turn. I've never raced one off the line and I have never raced a 5.0 only the 4.6.

I love responding to retard posts such as this. Do I honestly believe? Um yes actually I did it... you obviously know NOTHING about racing because early 90s mustangs with the 5.0 motors ran 15.0s stock.... 6sp Accords run 14.5s. And thats FWD vs RWD. Secondly, against a 4.6L y2k Mustang GT, form the line, yes I would be beat, they run 14.0@98-99, the Accord 6spd runs 14.5@98. So actually from a roll it would be an even race if if anything the accord bc of it being FWD, from a roll it would have a chance of winning. If yorue going to respond, put some thought and facts behind it.. dont reply with an opinion like you did before. As for being serious, Im being 100% serious, I didnt buy an Accord to go race and beat V8s, I had a DSM to do that...I was in the street racing scene for 3 years and many of my freinds drive modded Mustangs, I have a good knowledge of them... so YOU get serious. Thanks

Meant to say frm a roll the 4.6L GT WOULD BEAT ME, however form a roll, he would not because we both have matching trap speeds and if anything, I woudl take him down from a roll bc I have the same trap with a slower ET, ET is quicker, trap is faster.

The 4.6 I took was around the 96 or so model. I think it was automatic as well but am not for sure. Could that be why I had such an easy time with it? Or did the driver just suck? You seem to know your stuff Tom. What do you think?

GP2k, you drive a pontiac grand prix... EVEN if it so happens to be the GTP ( 240 HP, 280 trq) you run a 6.7 0-60 time stock. Lets look at what our six speed has... 240hp, 212 trq 0-60 in 5.9sec. I think this is just another lesson in the age old argument of how American car makers can't keep up with the japenese. American automakers have admitted that they don't know how these jap cars can have so much for so little. Us Honda owners are driving one of the best non-luxury vehicles there is, while we look down at you in your pontiac and laugh... :lol2:

Accords six speeds are fast but arent the times a little far off? Ive read that a mustang Gt 03 does the quarter in 14.5 and 14.6 and that the accord does it in 14.8-9. A mustang GT is no close match for an s2000 which runs 14.0 - 14.1...I think the 14.0 mustang time is far off...Oh mm yeah the accord does not do 0-60mph in 5.9. Check car and driver...its more like 6.5-6.6

So according to what ive read:
Mustang GT 03 14.5 1/4 mile
Accord 6spd 14.6 1/4 mile 6.6 0-60 mph

Nice research smarty pants. I went to car and drivers website and did a simple search for the 03 accord and this is what I found. This is quoted from their magazine article on the 6spd accord... Are you ready for this.

"They also enhance performance. With a five-speed automatic sending power to its front wheels, the EX V-6 four-door needed 7.0 seconds to reach 60 mph and covered the quarter-mile in 15.5 seconds at 92 mph. The six-speed two-door hit 60 in 5.9 seconds and hustled through the quarter-mile in 14.5 seconds at 98 mph. Although the coupe did weigh 140 pounds less than the sedan, that's still a pretty strong testimonial for the efficiencies of a standard transmission. We should also add that the Accord manages to deliver the engine's substantial output to the drive wheels with only the barest hint of torque steer. This is not your father's Saab 9-3 Viggen."

Here is the link:
http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=7011

Next time you post numbers do your research first and don't just put what your dad told you. The numbers you are quoting are for the automatic transmission I am sure.

Let me spell this out for you:

I never claimed to be racing anyone in my pontiac street or otherwise like that moron in his Accord. Do you always "magazine race" with the numbers that are provided by various car publications? Consider real life driving conditions not magazines'. As a matter of fact both by father in law and my brother in law drive Accords, guess what I'm not inpressed by them! :nono:

What does s/c has anything to do with anything here? What difference does it make HOW you make your power. Next thing you're going to tell me is that HP per Liter argument that all ricers seem to have in their back pocket. Right?? :banghead:

Consider real life driving conditions not magazines'.
I'm just saying what these things are capable of via the magazines' proof. When you think about it, the relationship between the numbers in the magazine and real life driving conditions are directly proportional to eachother. if you are in your pontiac and I'm in my Accord, real life situations are going to slow us down equally minus the drivers skill. And I am not talking about racing necesarily.

As a matter of fact both by father in law and my brother in law drive Accords, guess what I'm not inpressed by them! :nono:
What do you know, my father in law, mother in law and brother in law all use to drive pontiacs, until I showed them the light
