Greetings everyone.

I own a 1992 escort gt and am preparing to install some front door speakers for my new system.

Before I go and damage somthing I didn't need too, I was wondering how to properly remove the panels to access the old speakers?

Will I need any special tools?

I would greatly appriciate any suggestions, Thanks.

no you wont. its beyond easy. some screws in the arm rest, door handle. then pull tabs around the side of the panel, just pull. then life up and the panel will cmoe right off. and you can do what I did, and if you still want the covers that coe with your new speakers, measure you speakers and figure out where they will go in the panel, then carefully cut out the part of the speaker panel so that grill isnt covering it, then you can place the specker covers that came with the speakers on. but there are only a few screws and some pulls tabs that keep that door panel on.

In regards to this subject, I'm having real trouble getting the window winders off so that the panel will come out. Does anyone know how I can get them off? or a way round the prblem. I seriously need to change the standard speakers in there! Just not up to scratch!

oh yeah, those are a bitch. ok. the knob for the window is set around on point, where it turns around, and then the handle itself comes off of that.(make sense)basically the part you grab to turn the handle, look on the back of that right there. youll see the back of the handle itself. and follow that down to the base, when it turns from, you should see a little piece of brass metal. its like a horse shoe almost. you need to get a pair of flathead screwdrivers and push those two little tabs, and part of that metal clip should be sticking out the side of the base, opposite the side the handle comes off of. you just have to pry that out. its a little hard to find it and do it the first time, but then once you understand it, its gets much easier. if you can get a hold of a haynes manual, or even if you just go to an autozone or something and find a open on. go to page 11-7, and on the right page in the scenter, image 11.1b will let you see what your trying to take off and you'll have a better understanding of it. actually here in the maual it says to take a cmall cloth and slip it behid the handle and pull towards the base if it to hook the clip. but if you get the book it'll help you out a lot.

Yeh I've been playing around with those clips behind the crank, I'll have a little look at them today. I'm just worried about getting them back on! Thank you very much for the advice though, was very helpfull.

sure, glad to help. if you still have problems getting back on you just slip the clip back on the handle then push the handle back on.
