Cost to replace valve cover gaskets

The dealer just called and stated that my '97 GTP is leaking around one of the valve covers and quoted a $260 price tag to replace. That seems awfully high to replace valve cover gaskets. How hard are they to replace? Has any one else had theirs replaced and if so what was the cost?

Thanks,

I would just replace them yourself. Its pretty straight forward and all you'll need to know is the torque specs for the covers.

Torque specs from GM service manual

"tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 10 N.m (89 Ib in)"

I'd just replace 'em yourself. I had the same problem with my '95 GP SE, and I bought new gaskets for CDN$14.99, and put them in myself. However, it does involve a LOT of engine dismantling (on my car, at least). The front valve cover comes off easy, but the rear one won't budge until the alternator and a whole lot of other stuff comes out first.
