Hey guys I've got some awesome news! I let this kid drive my old P.O.S. around the block AND HE RAN IT INTO A VOLVO! Isn't that awesome? Now I can put all my bad times behind me and start all over with something new... I'm thinking along the lines of a 240SX but running it with the SR20DET motor and going for the Silvia rendition. :evillol: :evillol: :evillol: :evillol: :evillol: :evillol: :evillol: :evillol:

It's not gonna be awesome news if the insurance comes back on you or the driver of the Volvo sues you. If your insurance policy only covers you, then you will may be in a world of penalties for letting someone else drive your car only to end up wrecking it. I personally would feel pretty crappy if someone took my car out and caused an accident in it.

Just my :2cents:

yes but 4 things:

1.) I'm covered for all drivers
2.) I hated that damn thing more than anything in this world...
3.) The Volvo was fine.. not a scratch on it
4.) I talked to the people and my insurance company... everything's OK... well I'll pay a lil more of course but hey... at least that damn thing's gone

:sly: I'm confused - how can your car get totalled in an accident with another car and that other car not get a scratch on it.

Well, when I rear ended a minivan with my Toyota, and punctured the radiator - if I didn't like the car so much, I could have just told them to total it. (But I like it too much - the car was 20 years old, and not worth much, so if I wanted to, I could've had it totalled)

I know of a Volvo that apparently ran into a concrete bridge abutment and DID get a scratch or two.

concrete bridges (SOLID) > Volvo (abnormal vehicle) > Normal Brick Wall (not so solid)

That's why I figured it had to be a bridge abutment - in one of the smaller pics you can see whatever he hit was about 2' wide and VERY solid - I mean, look, the airbag's on the floor and the engine's in the seat.

Actually Oz I never said the car was totaled. The question is are the repairs worth more than getting something else? Though the car isn't exactly what I want the benefits of it are pretty good. I've never had engine trouble with it and other than Jason's accident with it, it's in perfect shape. But as I know you know your stuff on autos I do have a question for you... I got the estimate for repairs and I'm wondering if I should bill this guy for the repairs or if I should just junk my car and have him pay for a different one. Anyone can give me responses but I just am struggling with what is morally correct. Here's the list on the estimate:

both front headlights
engine mount
front bumper
clip
hood
hydraulic system (for the hood)
driver's side front fender
driver's side view mirror (loose may not need replacing... personally I feel I can do it in 5 minutes at home)
radiator (only a possibility)
labor fee

when it all comes together it added up to around $2500 (USD) but all that needs to be paid is the $500 deductable... now this family doesn't have much money and I'd feel bad for asking more of them than I have to... what is the morally acceptable thing to do here? I mean what would you do?

...I mean what would you do?

I wouldn't loan my car to poor, irresponsible bad drivers. But that's just me.

Thanks but that doesn't help me out much... I think I'm just gonna live with the damn Lumina for a little longer as so I don't ask too much from that family... Maybe it would be a different story if it was just the guy but I don't see why his family should suffer over his mistake and mine. Any feedback?

The back of the Volvo looks okay, maybe someone could salvage it and make a half-car trailer

Back to the original topic. If you don't need the money right away, you could ask that he pay it in installments. That would be a bit easier for them to deal with, if they have to pay.
