New Ads on AF

Hi Everyone,
I would like to hear everyone's feedback on the new text ads that you see on AF. Including on this page.
You will notice that they are very highly targeted to the individual page that you are viewing. So if a topic discusses Turbochargers, as an example - http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t457.html , you will notice that all ads are directly related to the topic.
This can also be used as a tool to find the products you are looking for while at the same time supporting AF, as we are going to be using the revenue generated through these advertisements to further improve AF. One very large and expensive plan that we have is starting an online automotive magazine that will cover general industry news and analysis, car reviews/previews, and a plethora of technical information. We will be hiring a number of automotive journalists/techs for the online magazine and that will cost a significant amount of money. I hope that everyone views these ads as another resource and visit the advertisers you are interested in from time to time through AutomotiveForums.com.
Please let me know what you think about these new ads!
Thanks,
Igor

It will depend on the topic of the thread.
However, it appears that right now the ads are not as targeted on non car-related pages. This will be looked into.

As long as their not popup ads, I can deal with them. I actually clicked on one a few minutes ago.
The magazine sounds good; I can't wait!

I actually ordered a mag from a link in Iggy's sig a few weeks ago.
Targeted ads sound like a really good idea. Only one thing - at the top it says "click here to learn more". I did, it dumped me in the forums index.

That is correct, but, please make sure you only visit advertisers that you are actually interested in.

I like how I can now view threads without getting security messages at work. (Active X)

I see no ads. That might be because I'm using Mozilla. :o

Igor, I went to the link you supplied and there was no adds about turbochargers. Just stickers, Beat parking tickets, extended warranty, wheels and tires, and automotive videos.
May want to check that they are config'd properly. I don't mind the advertising at all since I buy those adds everymonth assuming they are google ads, and I may see mine on here someday. That would be pretty cool.

Don't like it down the RHS of the screen. At all. Anywhere else is fine.

I agree completely. The ads on the right make me want to be violent towards a poor innocent kitten!
Please make them go away, for the kittens sake.

John - the ads on the right are not coming from Google.
Sean - please post a screenshot of how you see it. I suspect a lot of people are still using extremely low resolution settings....

i agree too..i don't have the problem with the ads on other places but on RHS they can very distracting.....i think repositioning them would be a very goo ideea.....oh btw i have 1280X1024 rez so for most people with lower rez its must be worse

so you think that it may work better if they are moved to the left?

actually i think to the left it would intrude even more.....i was thinking somewhere at the top or the bottom of the page...if possible that is
another thing that might help is why not make their backround the same color as the rest of the forum or make them apear only beside the first post.....as they are when you scroll down and the ads dissapear all you get is this big white bar to the right eating up space

It's really annoying to have a big white bar down the side.

Google ads, 7 cents a click. Still, most sites on the internet use them.

THe ads on the right look like the ones powered by google, that are supposed (and often do) relate to the topic of the page. My roommate has a website, which uses them. He gets 7 cents Canadian for everyone who clicks on them.
I actually can find them useful, showing where I can buy the type of stuff that Im reading about.

hey, it ads up. If everyone who came to AF clicked an ad each day, (say, 1000 people), then it'd be $70 a day. Over a year, that would be $25000.
Of course, that never happens, but, it can provide some revenue to keep this site running. The type of traffic this place gets, we can use any help we can get.
Oh, and they only pay out the 7 cents every 24 hours for each IP. So, if you click it 10000 times in one day, only 7 cents is credited.
If thats the same system Igor has, of course. Could be different, I just know how my roommates site works. (He gets about 30-40 cents a day, and we click it each day :P)

AF has a totally different system - but clicking does help.
