Tell me your thoughts. My dad has one, and I raced one on the street the other day.
Hmm I gotta long list of things I like, but an even longer list of things I don't like.

Whats not to like about the CL type S. Except for the lack of a manual and rear wheel drive, it is an amazing bargain. With a 5 spd and rear wheel drive, 6.3 second 0-60 should be possible. :alien: Plus its about 30 grand, 10 less the a similiar BMW. Acura should do better than it does.

Yeah it rules especially when u consider that crappy suspension it has. Is it sporty or luxurious? Which one Acura? Well you did a good job on making it neither. It feels real floaty at high speeds too.
Worst transmission I've ever felt. The triptronic shifts so damn slow, it's gotta 1-2 second delay. The normal automatic functioning is so slow and delayed, not crisp at all.
Back seats have no back support.
Engine RPMS are way too low on the freeway, car has to downshift two gears to pass anyone, and with that wonderful auto tranny you dont wanna have it downshift two gears.
Other than that it's an awesome car for the money. Honestly, it is a great car, but there are some critical things that I've listed above that just kill it for me.

Which powerplant are they using?
I understand the marketing side of it . . . it's the kind of thing that has worked for US automakers for years. Make a car with enough style to be assumed as a sports car to the less educated consumer . . . then market it as a sports car . . . basically by calling it a "Type" anything . . . lol . . . or adding an "R" or "S" or "GT" . . . to the name . . . and you have a car that will sell much better than the real performers . . .
The real performers have to be unearthed by talking to people that work on cars or by talking to your next door neighbor that just happens to have a brand spanking new 2001 Maxima SE because it was "purty" . . .

I would definitel get one. Just that the price tag for those things are a little out of my reach. But I test drove one and must say that it is a beast. Some guy around where I work has that reddish color one, and he dropped it. It looks niiice with the 18's he's got on it.

I love it !!! my mom and i went today to the acura dealership and i drove it today its pretty sweet ...hell its 30 grand it better be sweet but my two choice were either the Is300 or the CL type s . I havent test driven the Lexus but the Type S seems really nice i didnt really hit it today when i drove it on the high way i'll probably put alittle bit of mods intake headers nothing much . I want it to also have a laid back ride ...i think im gonna save up and put 18in rims on there but i dont know what yet . But first off im gonna have to worry about paying for the car hahahaha GREAT  i also gotta get the wing put on hopefully my rents will pay for that :D

Sorry, my coonection crapped out.
As I've already said, I like the CL. Since I have never driven one, I can't talk about the tranny. Although MT did complain about the tranny, they really wanted a manual. The car deserves one, aswell as a better suspension. But think about it: You can cruise around effortlessly, and have a little fun in the twisties. For alot of people, that is perfect.
And driving and the rpm's being low is good; it means the engine isn't using a ton of gas, it is quiet, and it has plenty of power low-down.

Well I drove it again last night and it is honestly a pretty nice car. However, with 260 HP it doesn't feel like a beast. My Maxima throws my body into my seat in all gears. The CL does not do this, but the speedo seems to skyrocket up. I raced one once and it was real close. There was a band from 65-90 where he pulled but 0-65 I was up by 1/4 length, and after 90 the Maxima just walked hard.
About the tranny.
Well after driving my girlfriend's sister's 2001 V6 Accord EX, the CL's tranny shines compared to that one. Although the CL still has a long, swishy, uncrisp shift; it isn't quite as bad as the accords.
If someone was willing to research and create a modified valve body for the tranny, I bet that thing would be AWESOME.
RUMOR: 6 Speed TL and CL Type-S (Acura's thinking about it, and rumoring next year will have it as an option).

I could research it, but no.
Pretty much all manu-matics are dumb, they work just as well in automatic than in manual mode. A six-speed would go a long way to beating BMW. :)

The subject of making a family car a race car just makes me laugh. Why?? Buy a race car if you want to race, and a family car if you need a family car. Or in this case a Sport "tuned" sedan. The suspension isn't stiff or rigid because it's a sedan which has to attract a wide rage of people. Not just racers. As a matter of fact they're probably least worried about targeting the racers. Apparently your Maximas suspension didn't cut it for you either. I don't know about anyone else but when I'm taking some clients out for lunch I don't want to be apologizing for bouncing them there. As far as the tranny goes, it is tall. 4th gear is the slowest to me. That's why your max probably started walking. But I wouldn't compare Nissan to Acura, or Infinity for that matter. Nissan is probably the least attractive to me when it comes to interiors, next to GM or any other big 3. A 6 spd is due out the coming fall on the CLS, hopefully this will alleviate some of the complaints about the tranny. Anyway, as far as sport tuned sedans go I don't think you can be it for the money. I've heard of some guys putting the comptech header on and dynoing 30 more horses at around 6600 rpms. That would help on your higher end. BTW, you may want to add to your bad list that the paint is thin and chips easy. At least on the TLS.

The RSX does look good in person.
The purpose of a sporty sedan is for drivers with families, so they need a practical car too.

Doesn't the CL-S manumatic allow you to keep control until close to redline. It doesn't automatically shift up say at 3000 rpm.

I hit the rev limiter on accident and it kinda makes me a bit worried :( but just from 1-2 is when it automatically shifts up .

Crappy Suspension ? Your Question is it Sporty or Luxurious, How about both ! And with My Sways: I'll lean more toward Sporty.
Floaty @ High Speeds? How High we talking ? Any car gets lighter at High Speeds (DUH) but at 3510 LBS I don't think it's any more FLOATY than your Ugly-Butted Maxima.
Transmission is Avg. I would agree. Some on our forum have had some problems, but 95 % haven't experienced Bad. Compaired to Manual it will be Slower shift. What do you expect. I guess you actually could design a better Transmission and SS on the CAR. I suggest you start now; maybe by time your 80 you'll still be clueless.
As for Back Seats. I don't sit back there :) but it's NOT uncomfortable, I just wouldn't want to take a Cross Trip Country in A COUP. For that fact wouldn't want to take a Cross country Trip in your Maxima either :)

As an owner for more than a year, I can say without a doubt that it is a great value. My previous car was a 1998 Maxima SE 5SPD. It was quick. A race between the two would be close but I didn't buy it for that. I bought it for the great seats, the great options that aren't options (only option is NAVI), the ride, the quietness (when I want it). Before that I had a Lexus GS300, before that a Mits 3000GT. I'm not saying it's the best, nut it's definitely not the worst.
I put a CAI on it and that increased the horsepower a great deal (according to my highly calibrated "butt-Dyno").

In Quebec less than half the population has French as their first language, and when they die, it wont matter. (ITs kinda like California, except French/English instead of English/Spainish):alien2:
