I beat my managers riced out 90 cavelier LS. he thinks its so tight but once we got to 100mph (his top speed) it was over naturally. some kid in a probe saw us going at it and he got his ass handed to him at a light.

Your boss honestly thinks a 90 Cavalier is tight? Sounds like he needs to be replaced.

Us Domestic owners try not to concider "Cavaliers" and "Probes" as true "domestics"...

I know about cavaliers..but i do know that the probe is equipped with a mazda engine.

Don't bash the domestics too badly. Despite my Colt was built for Dodge by Mitsubishi, it's
still a domestic. It's stock and i've stomped a riced up Prelude in it.

Then there's my '82 Pontiac. Basically a Chev Caprice of '82 with the Pontiac logo. I beat
a '98 Camaro SS, a riced up Acura and Eagle Talon, not to mention a 2001 Celica in it.
Domestics are the bomb, don't piss on em!!

To read about how this happened, check out the stories.

My name is MAD_C_ZN and my stories are titled:

Parisienne (Catalina) VS Camaro SS

Jet Fuel

However, just so we don't go too off topic, '90 Cavaliers aren't anything special, that
i'll grant you!

Peace. :sun:

I usually count domestics as cars with domestic manufacturer badging.....this includes the Eagle Talon which is allowed to compete at NHRA domestic drag competitions while the Eclipse is not.

dont get me wrong, i dont bash domestics at all. some of my favorite cars are domestics.

I had a 98 Cavalier Z24. I considered it a domestic. It was pretty quick and handled very nicely. Only bad habbit was for some reason the sunroof would drain into the trunk when it rained. Didn't care for that.

I agree that a domestic is one coming from the big three.....

I think it is fare to say that all cars have something in them that was produced outside the US of A. To call a care non-domestic because this or that piece was made outside the states is not fare.

For that matter....aren't Honda Accords made in Ohio?

That would make all Acura's domestic too....there is no Acura in Japan...only North America. Same for Infinity and Lexus.

Well not really..over in Japan they do have integras except its under a honda badge. Yes the Acura is an american name but its with Japan technology. We just assemble them. Thats the same with infinity and lexus, etc....

hey blackbird, have you decided if your going weight reduction yet?

Blackbird01
12-08-2001, 07:19 PM
Yes. I dropped about 200 lbs off the car :D
Bumper supports. A/C. Rear seats. Lighter converter. Lighter exhaust. Skinnies up front. And only use about 3 gallons of gas at the track.

u domestic owners consider mustangs, camaros, f150s, c1500s as "true" domestics? ive beaten countless of them in my 4cyl station wagon. funny thing is its almost stock. closest "domestic" race ive ever had was with a focus zx3 with nitrous, but then thats a mazda design anyway. but i only said that was the closest, i didnt say i havent had my ass whooped by a few v8s, but their usually on the recieving end of it...

what kind of car do you drive. im interested in seeing your nearly stock station wagon v8 killer.

LjasonL
12-14-2001, 05:23 PM
2002 subaru impreza 2.5ts, best time 12.9 1000ft wiht a passenger, i didnt say i was a v8 killer i just said ive beat a few of em in my time, http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?threadid=15397&perpage=15&pagenumber=2 for a list of the ones i could remember at the time.

LjasonL

oh and that list deosnt include at the strip, just street...

LjasonL
12-15-2001, 03:15 AM

Curious...What does one of those run completely and truly stock?

LjasonL
12-17-2001, 12:07 AM
all i have now is a weapon r intake and a universal muffler performance wise so i assume it could run nearly this fast stock, but my best time stock was 13.7 1000 ft (no 1/4 mile track here :( ) i doubt all that gained time came from the light mods, but rather getting used to the car, shift points, launch, etc. the 13.7 was while the car had less than 400 miles on it, and it didnt stay stock long so didnt really have a chance to get used to it while stock. have since run down the actual timed dragstrip prob 100 times, and on the street, countless. think im actually faster now, seem faster compared to other cars ive been racing on the street but tracks closed for the season so cant find out for sure, its quite possible im running faster than the 12.9 now.

LjasonL
12-17-2001, 12:09 AM
and in case u are unaware, my car is the non turbo 2.5l impreza with 160 hp 160 lb ft torque stock, NOT the wrx, got my ass kicked by a stock one of those.

Self

Ok, wait, hold on a minute. What kind of V8's do they have in Arkansas??? A 160 hp car is dusting a 305+ Camaro? and that's stock hp ratings. Ok, I'll be generous and give you 10 hp per mod, and you said all you have is an intake/exhaust setup, so you're car would, optimistically be netting you 180 hp. And also, you said you ran a 12.9 1000 ft. That would mean that you're close to a 14.9 second quarter mile. Which isn't SLOW by any means, but it's nothing like a newer muscle car runs. Stock 93 - 97 Camaro Z28 runs a 14.1. 98-2001 Camaro Z28 runs a 13.7. But then again, I just looked back at the list of cars you said you've killed and none of those are muscle cars, just trucks. haha, sorry for the misunderstanding. But still, if you come up against a V8 Camaro or Mustang expect a defeat, unless, like you stated, the motor blows up!

Blackbird01
12-17-2001, 09:14 PM
Hold on, you say you run a 12.9 at 1000ft ?
Well, altitude KILLS ET so you'd expectedly run FASTER at Sea Level.
Now, you ALSO say that you got your ass kicked by a WRX...
A WRX will run a 14.3ish AT SEA LEVEL!
And the WRX is a turbo car, which comes into play EVEN MORE at altitude!

So, how does a 12.9@1000ft car LOSE to a 14.3@sealevel car???
Yet still beat a mid-low 13 sec. Camaro?

I believe that this subaru ran a 13.7 on a 1000 ft strip not a full 1/4 mile like was said in the above quote. I think this is all just a big misunderstanding. Hope this cleared things up just a little.:)

yes a 1000ft dragstrip, sorry for not stating that earlier. and i know i will be beaten by a 93 plus camaro v8, but some of the body style before that (dont know year models for those) ive raced at the strip and have beaten, although those werent exactly in the greatest of mechanical condition, they werent falling apart either. i think a late 80s camaro v8 in perfect condition would be a really close one for me, id like to try wish i knew someone with one.

LjasonL
12-17-2001, 11:21 PM
for comparison purposes, a new z28 on our 1000 ft strip will run about 12.1-12.0 and a del sol with a 75 shot will get 13.4-13.3.

Yeap, I know. Using a little math and a standard Microsoft Windows calculator I estimated his quarter based on his stated 1000ft to be a high 14 seconds. I think that an IROC-Z or equivalent Firebird would probably, like he said, be a close one. A newer F-body V8 will be a blow out.
