i got a intesesting ?...i have to offers on my hands.a JDM b16A, or , a USDM B18C1.? help me decide?

GSR.

They both have the same Hp, but the GSR has a little more torque, and makes it peak a shade sooner, so it is funner to drive around town.

Go with the USDM B18C1. Assuming the JDMB16A is gen 2 (92+) and not a 1t gen (88-91), the GSR has a little more HP 170 @7600 vs 168 @7800, if it's 1st gen JDMB16A (88-91) then its 170 @7600 vs 158 @7600. However, the GSR has more Peak torque, and it achived Peak torque at a much lower RPM (128 ft/lbs of torque @ 6200 RPM vs 116 ft/lbs @ 7300 RPM). Low-End Torque rules the streets, and the GSR motor hits a higher peak torque at a much lower RPM. It takes the B16A 1100 RPM's higher to achive it's peak torque, and its still 12 ft/lbs less. At the time when the GSR hits its peak torque at 6200rpm, the B16A has much,, much less torque. As for abilty to spool the motor high, the B16A's redline is at 8500, and the GSR at 8100. Basically, the GSR is a better base motor to start building on due to the far greater low-end torque, the higher peak torque output, and the greater displacment. Remember, there's no replacement for displacment. You get all the benfits above, plus tad tad more HP. Also, when it comes to Forced Induction, when a low C/R is best, the GSR also has a slightly lower C/R, 10:1 vs 10.4:1.

i agree with all of that except the last line, which is valid, but if you were running turbo you would most definitely replace your pistons to something lower than 10:1 cuz that is hellof high for turbo.. so if you were planning on going turbo and your finally deciding factor was because of the compression ratios you'd be replacing them anyway.

You don't have to change pistons/lower compression to boost a GSR, or any B series vtec for that matter, it's called tuning.

If he was planning to run 20 psi, I would have to agree. However, at the 8psi he would most likely run, he'd be fine. Proper tuning can go a long way. A few people with guts mix high compression and turbo's. Not recommended unless you know serious shit about engines and tuning, but it's be done a few times, producing mad results. Most of the time and for most of us that's not possible or we dare not try it, and with good reason, high compression and boost is generally a shitty mix and recipe for disaster. I know I sure as hell am not mixing boost and a high c/r. But for the PSI he'd run on stock internals, he can get away with the stock internals and c/r. And the GSR's slightly lower C/R will be a little safer, in this regard, than the slightly higher B16A. You are correct, however, if he's going to run 15psi, for example, he probably going to want to put in lower c/r pistons.
