hey im thinking of getting a porsche when im 16 i have time to save some money im thinkin of the 924 or the 944 i dont want to spend to much on insurance if someone could give me an estimate of how much insurance will cost on a 944 or 924 when im 16 in florida that will help out so much in my desicion in gettin a porsche thank you alot

well.. its not possible to give you an estimate of the exact insurance rates, but if you want to buy a porsche, a 924 is your best bet insurance-wise, especially the older 2.0L one. if you get one old enough it is considered an antique/classic car and you can get a substantial discount.
but you are 16 years old, you will be paying a lot for insurance, i do not care WHAT kind of car you drive. you'd be better off getting a 10 years old corolla or something else cheaper to maintain than a porsche.

Insurance is cheap for 924s. 944s are quite a bit more expensive to insure and maintain, so you'd be much better of with a 924.
Shadowboy, you say your '79 924 is an S model? Aside from the 87-88 924S, which was mechanically a 944, the only S model I'm aware of is the limited edition 1980 931S. Did they offer the S package on naturally aspirated '79s as well?

yes, the M471 option was available on 79 N/As and turbos. mine does have the 5-lug wheels, vented disc brakes all around, larger sway bars, firmer springs, and bigger torsion bars rear.
only ~500 924s in 1979 were purchased with the M471 option. about 400 of those were ordered on the turbo.
my particular 924 was purchased in texas, in March of 1979 before the turbo was available, it is actually one of the first M471-optioned 924s purchased in the USA. It does not have any of the appearance options you see on later 924/931 S models (no spoiler, no decals, for example).

Ah, I see. I didn't think the S was offered until '80. I was also wondering why you have US spec 5mph bumpers in your picture.
My car didn't come with M471 sadly, but I have a set ready to go in and some good condition flat disc wheels from a 928S.
