Well I sold my civic so now I am going to be picking up a sr20det red top to drop into the s13. I will put up pictures after the swap is done.

I usually agree with your posts, but in this instance I don't. The car he is building is most likely a daily driver and the redtop gives you the most performance for the cheapest price. He may only want 210-250 hp which the redtop will deliver that for very little money compared to an rb25 swap. Black top engines are more expensive and don't offer (IMO) enough good things to make it worth the added cost...just gives you more bragging rights.

im going to have at least a rb25 dayna, so don't worry :-) one of us over here is smart

and it will be a daily driver...

Number one I do not see a reason for me to get a Rb25 it is harder to install and 1500 to 2000 bucks more. I am going to be using this car for a daily driver/ weekend drifter and I need just enough power to break the wheels lose. This is not going to be a drag car and I am not aiming for high horse power numbers. I can get the whole sr20det redtop front clip for 2100 bucks low milage. This is because I am sponsered by my partner we are the owners of http://www.driftmonkey.com he owns a toyota Soarer. I will get a Black Top with the vvt if you want to do the wiring on it.

What the hell is that supposed to mean?

An SR20DET, CA18DET or RB25DET can produce more than enough horsepower for anyone's needs.

Yeah your smart let's build a N/A SOHC whoo hoo. Burn us at what? Drag, Road Course, Drifting? Drag is about the only thing you would beat us at. How about you get your rb25 and I get my sr20 and then a year from now we both go dyno and see who has the most power to the wheels. Oh by the way everyone I already bought my Tein HE's.

That is why i said to bite the bullet.... Spend the extra cash now, the black-tops are not much more money than the older more worn red-tops.

As far as wiring goes, i am sure it wouldn't be a big deal. especially if you used a microtec or haltech,

You may need to build an electronic device that is triggered under a programed condition (rpm, load, tps point... etc) by the stand alone that will then trigger the vvt..

I have not looked at the specifics on how the vvt is engaged, but it cannot be too difficult.

I am not worried about the redtop being worn. I am getting a low milage redtop and getting a 1.2mm metal headgasket and the rocker arm stoppers and also new clutch and flywheel. The redtop will be taking care of. I need a motor that is small and light. I don't want to have to bang the firewall back for and rb25. I need to drop this redtop in and leave it stock for a while and build up the suspension. Hopefully next year you will see me in the D1.

I would lay money down that you would not beat one of the driftmonkey.com owners in drifting or touge.

Oh and if you are saying that he modded the SOHC because he wanted to then I am telling you right now that I am getting a sr20det red top because I want to and I think it is the smarter thing to do for what I want to build the car for. I just think it is funny that he call people stupid because they want a sr20det redtop and he built up a SOHC auto. hahaha! Also if you are saving for an rb then why spend all this money into the shitty SOHC? Save money if you are going to save money.

my sohc would rock your sr20 ass any day. its fast as fuck, and i only put about 2500 into performance

go ahead and get your sr20, you wont be able to do any 11 sec passes in it w/o putting down at least 12k

hahaha what was your 1/4 time at the track with the sohc? By the way how many times must I say that this car is not going to be built for drag or 1/4 mile racing. I don't care if it runs 11 sec passes.

first of all, shut up, I'm tired of hearing you all argue already, are we 2 here or what?

second, good luck to ALL OF YOU, I hope all your plans come out great and you are all happy with your cars, as long as you don't go ricer on us

third, I'm gonna build up a KA24DE, so who wants to tell me how dumb I am for using the engine I already have instead of buying another used engine with only 50 more horsepower(SR20) or drop almost double for another 50hp(RB25)

these days everyone is doing any possible swap they can, so I'm gonna be original by being unoriginal and leaving the normal engine in there and just rebuilding it

now come on, cuss me out and say KS's suck and you'll smoke me at the track, I mean since I'm gonna be racing any of you ever? yea... thanks

p.s. I don't hate any of you, your just being retarded at the moment :screwy: :grinyes:

There is a lot of people that build up the ka24de which is the DOHC which is fine. Like said again and again this is not going to be a 1/4 mile car. I just think it is funny when someone calls us dumb for getting an sr20det when they were building a very slow SOHC N/A and does 1/4 mile drag.

I'm not saying your idea sucks, or anyone elses, I'm just saying we all wanna do what we wanna do, if we all did the same thing it wouldn't be any fun, so be glad not everyone wants the same engine as you

1.) Brian close this thread now please...this is another stupid "RB is better than all" "my engine is better than your engine" blah blah blah... :greddy2:

2.) So your RB25DET is going to have more hp than an SR or CA is capable of (around 400-450 and then it gets really expensive) and it's going to be a daily driver? So you want a 500+hp car on the street...

3.) Anyone who says a CA or SR can't make enough power is stupid...if you are circuit racing or something where seemingly endless amounts of grip is provided by super sticky tires then maybe having huge horsepower could be useful, but on the street you don't need and could very well have a hard time keeping control of a car with that much hp. I was at a very reputable Porsche modifiers site a few months back and he was talking about horsepower figures...400-500hp...the highest power car he ever made for street was a 911 (I think) with 700+ hp and he had to lower the hp to 650 or a little less because it had too much power...

4.) Everyone stfu about which engine is better and just accept that your budget and patience will probably never allow you to tap into the full potential of any of these engines...if you like an inline 6 then enjoy the throaty sound and accept that an sr20 or turbo ka with enough work can kill your car...there's always going to be someone with more horsepower...

Amen brother. I think the sr20det will put out perfect amount of power. I am going to be communting 6 hours every week so I need a good running motor.
