94 LX auto trans. slippin

The trans in my Accord started slipping horribly yesterday while driving up and down some winding hilly roads. I pulled over, checked the fluids and let it cool down. When I left the gas station it continued to act up, although I was able to get it home by babying the pedal (appr. 25 miles). The car has 79,000 miles (I put 4000 on it since February when I bought it) and the tranny has sometimes shifted a little hard but never actually slipped until yesterday (heard that was common). Should I change the filter and fluid.....add some tranny goober...tranny over-haul kit....auto tranny selector cable.....call a funeral home :banghead: ??? The fluid still maintains its shade of red, but it definetely smells burnt.
