Blue Lights

I went to an auto store the other day and asked the guy behind the desk to show me the blue headlights that they had. He took out a pair, and said that they were about $10, but he said they were illegal because they were immitated a cop. I asked him why the Audi's have those high blue lights, and he told me they had a HID system. So what would happen if I put those lights into my car? Wouldnt it still look the same? Then he showed me a different pair, he said they were "legal". They were $80. What the hell is up with that. He said they dont need an HID system or somethign like that. Anyone know anything about all this blue light stuff because I dunno why one is legal and costs 80 bucks and the other is illegal and costs 10 (its not a blackmarket so dont question that.) Thanks :smoka:

I would not even try the 10 dollars light, they are not bright at all, even worst than factory. They just blue in color so they looks cool. I think as long as the light in white ( with little blue hub ) and within 55w is legal. The 80 dollars light bulb was probably PIAA superwhite. They are good bulbs.

The ones he showed me were 80 to 100w. They didnt have the ones that were 55 or lower. Isnt 55w too low though? Ya I think the $80 ones were the piaas superwhites, but how come he said they were legal? I think they were 100w also. I seen a pair for like 15 bucks up at Wal-Mart, I dont remember how many watts they had, but I think they are bad quality (i mean come on, its wal mart). Thanks :smoka:

alright i can help u out with this ive been pulled and all the bs...not for the blue lights it was just an add on thing . But what the guy told u is partly true ...lexus bmw audi's and all those expensive ass cars have what they call HIGH INTENSITY DISCHARGE .... they are "Factory" and usually cost anywhere from $400-1000 for them ...their really bright and their really blue . Now the ones that they sell at perfomance stores are illegal except the Superwhite ...their more of a pure white with a little bit of blue they look cool too if you get the right kind . The reasons i was given by the police was that they were not Factory ...which meant they didnt come from the dealership like that and .....i said ...to myself Horseshitttttt. I love the blue bulbs too they look cool as hell at nite ...they should range from 30-80 $ for the good stuff now that $10 crap that guy told u about was that cheap shit from walmart or auto zone thats not even blue its gay ...trust me ive seen them and their not blue . Their are some good companys that make them out their ..i think Naxo's is a good brand ive seen their ad in SCC and it looks tight , Theirs all so Toucan they make some pretty nice Superwhites . Theirs also PIAA superwhites ...they kinda suck b/c my bro has them and their not even that good ...he paid around 40 - 50 $ and they....are worth it really . So go either with Toucan or Naxo Hopes this helps you out .;)

So you sayin that most non factory blue lights are illegal except the superwhites with a lil bit of blue? If it is thats thats cool cause thats what I want. Will they look kind of like the audi and the bmw? Are the laws for the superwhites the same throughout the country or do they vary by state? And do the superwhites last awhile or do you have to change them every few months (80 bucks is a lot to be spendin every month on lights)? thanks man :smoka:

I have a 1991 G20 and I have the Naxos Xenon Blue lights. They look the closest to HID of any of the bulbs I have seen. I got them for about $40 for the pair. Alot of the people I know have the Naxos in their car, and none of them have had any problems with the law because of them. Many of my friends like them better than the $80 Piaa's.

All ( maybe most ) of the factory blubs are 55w. The Piaa the guy showed you was also 55w, but the brightness looks like 100w ( I think that what 55w--100w means ) to be legel on street, you need to stay with 55w.
I am actually using Hiper blubs ( plasma super white 80w ) never get pull over. The blubs it not too awefully bright and it is white so....I got it for 28 bucks online. Go www.autotoys.com and check them out. H4 blubs is what we use.

Thats cool that helped me out a lot. How about the foglights? Can I do anythin with those or no? It be cool to have the the superwhites for both regular and the foglights, but I doubt it will work that way. Wouldnt it look kinda crappy to have superwhite headlights and regular foglights or would it look good? Thanks :smoka:

Just go with the naxos you wont regret them ...and you wont have to worry about replacing them ...from blowing out ...their pretty dependable from what i hear . Or go with the Super white bulbs made from Tucan ...i think thats how u spell it ... my friend 4x4dragon has the tucan superwhite and their really nice hes had them for awhile now and hes had no problems with them . So its up to u but just dont get the Piaa's their not worth it ;)

I just went to this web site : http://www.amsportinc.com/ext/Naxos.html , and it said that the H4 has a wattage of 100/90W. Does this mean that they are illegal since you have to be at 55 or less. Or does it mean that they are legal, 55w, but they look like 100w. Thanks

If it says 100/90w means 100w on low beam and 90w on high beam ( correct me if I am wrong, anyone ) so.....you need to find the one says 55/60w to be legal. Still I feel pretty comfortable with my 80w bulbs. It is not any brighter than the one on Acura 3.2TL.

Aiight this is messed up. I went to the autotoys.com website, and checked out some piaa's to see how they compared to the other ones. I looked at the H4, and H4 - DUAL PACK 60/55 = 110/100 WATT. It says it "Performs like a 110/100 Watt Bulb." This legal or not? If it is 60/55, how can it be 110/100 and be legal all at the same time. I am very confused but I think I will get it if someone explains it breafly. Thanks

What that is saying is that they only use 60/55 watts, but the light output is compareable to that of one that uses 110/100 watts. They are basicly saying that you are using less power but getting a best output for that wattage. For for a fact I belive that almost all piaa's are DOT/SAE certified in all 50 states

Does that go for most superwhites that say 110/100w on the box, or it really depends on the brand?

All piaa 9000 series lights are street legal. The H4's are only SAE aproved. You can go to http://www.piaa.com/index1.html for all information on piaa bulbs

On the piaa website, they said the H4 are only SAE approved. Does that mean its color is legal? Maybe thats what is confusing me, the Street Legal, the SAE, and the DOT thing. Whats the different between them? On the H4s it doesnt have the Street Legal sign, so that means its not legal? People said it is and the website says its not so its confusin to me. thanks

I went to a local auto store today, and saw the piaas that the had. They had the H4 65/60w. I asked them about the H3 for my fog lights. In the cars manual book, it says that the Fog Lights are 35w, but piaas make only 55+w H3 bulbs. Could I replace my oem bulbs with the 55w piaas or no?
If not-
Anyone know anything about 35w H3 piaas? Because the guy told me that he doesnt have them in his catalog, but you never know. Thanks :smoka:

koojo- old post, but wanted to bring it up because a local toy store got some of those 55/60w H4 superwhites the other day and wanna get it myself. i think it's its probably illegal, but I'm gonna put them on anyways. super whites are super bright when you see them headon...very close to HID imo. not sure of the price yet.
gonna get those H3 amber bulbs too, for the fogs. :D
gettin' the G ready for fall/winter.

Im not sure, but when I asked the price of HID for our cars at a local store they said around 1g also. He said it is expansive for the g20's compared to other rides.
