I just ran the "code test" on the car and got the code 12 - "Problem with standby memory circuit"
The starter will not even turn over at all. I can hear the click and whir of the starter but there is no power distribution.
Any ideas before I go to the mechanic?
Thanks.

code 12 is battery disconnected in the last 50 ignition cycles. thats not your problem. i asume your car has a bosch reduction starter (most do)and it has a plastic outer gear that likes to break causing it not to crank the engine. i think your looking at a 200$ starter.it also isnt that easy to change. good luck
