Yeah thats me banging my head, just bought a 1978 Suburban with a 454 . The fuel consuption is worse that it should be even for a 454 . Since it is not burning all the fuel the existing carb is dumping now, 5.7 MPG sucks big time.
What is a good replacement carb, brand and vendor ID#
Thanks for your help

We have an 82 chevy C-30 crew cab truck with swapped in 427, th-400 trans and 4.11 rear axle ratio. We were getting 5-7 mpg at first. Thought Q-jet problem so got rebuilt Q-jet from napa and gained 1 mpg. Called Summit Racing and ended up with a Holley 650 spreadbore, model 4175 and set it up with the "stiff" spring that controls the 4bbl and we were up to around 9 mpg. We have very few problems with Holley, they were the OEM carb on 366,427 and 454 in the bigger trucks. A set of exhaust headers and dual exhaust 3" with H-pipe got us in the 10-11mpg range, and we are happy with that. We also run a 14x4 open element ait filter. Hope that helps you with your 'burb.
