Press the dome override 4 times very quickly and the headlights will go off. Hit it 4 more times to turn them back on.

greg, you should also know that each time you start your truck, you will have to repeat this procedure. By the way, on my 'oo it also works with the DRL's.

SC is right. On a 99 it doesn't work. I have some instructions here if you 'd like me to post them or mail them to you. It consists of cutting the wire to the dash sensor and wiring a resistor in. VERy simple task and gives you full control of the lights via the light switch. I've done this to my truck about a year ago and it works fine.

i got a kit from R&D automotive that lets you go from auto to manual control with a push of a button. pretty cool and simple to install and the button looks stock. got it for $30...or you can do the resistor thing

i found this website about 2 yrs ago: http://tommy3z71.homestead.com/hl_overide.html
I followed the link there to the site and purchased it direct from R&D. Now the link says "Forbidden". Dunno y.

I wanted one of those things badly, but couldnt get one so I just did the resistor thing. It works fine for me b/c I wanted total controll anyhow.

Is there a way to make this permanent instead of pushing the button every time you start the truck??
Sometimes I need to roll up, unannounced
I have a 2000 Sil.

pretty sure you gotta push the button each time you turn the vehicle off/on to get manual control, unless you do either method mentioned early in the thread.

I have a 98 chevy silverado and I just went into the fuse box and pulled the fuse out for day time running lights(DRL i think was on the fuse)don't know if it will work for your year.

that'll work in turning off the DRL's, but you won't have manual control of the headlights.
not completely sure but on the new body style silverados, taking out the drl relay might cause the headlights not to work at all...anyone back me up on this or correct me?

I pulled mine, and everything was normal, except the DRL's. THey went off, which I didn't like them anyhow so thats a good thing.

Anybody Successful in finding the R&D product that was talked about on the First page? I've spent 3 days on and off looking for it and can't find it.
I even went as so far as to try and contact the company that hosts truckautoaccessories.com to get the product to no avail.
If anybody has a spare one of those kits or knows where to get one let me know.
Thanks :D

Thanks dude. I'm not a big fan of cutting wires either, but after reading the instructions, and looking at what I was doing before I did it, it's nothing to return to stock. I just wanted total control of my lights, and I finally got it.

Thanks, Puna, I have to update the pic. I added lights and chrome door handles..
Update:
Today I notice from a cold start with the e-brake on the Autoheadlights didn't work. I rose the e-brake up until it was almost fully up but, disengaged and I was able to have complete headlight control. The only down side is that you have to admire the blinking E-Brake indicator light.
Hey Jayson, do you think if a guy wired a switch in place of the resistor you put in, would it work???

The switch won't work, b/c the line has to have resistance on it for the light sensor to keep the lights off, but, there is a way to wire the resistor inline w/a switch to let you decide whether or not you want to control the lights. I'll sit down and try to figure it out, and if you try, and come up w/a solution, pleeease let me know.

Cool Yah , let me know what wire you put the resistor one and how you would do it. I'm game to try anything. I've put a few other questions out to some aftermarket guys here in town as well.
So, I'll let you know if I find anything.
Did you see my post in the other C/K forums about Dash Lights? I managed to get those LEDs to work and they look cool.

I found the receipt for the R&D automotive guys...has a contact phone number on it, not sure if it is still in existance. perhaps a call could help acquire one of their kits

Yeah, I'm a Firefighter/First Responder/Rescue Specialist along w/many other things, so I need folks to get the hell outta my way sometimes lol. As many lights as I have now, it usually works. And a Nelson tune, is a performance tune, like a Hypertech, but its completely different. A guy, Allen Nelson, sends you a new PCM with his custom tuning installed on it, and you replace the one in your truck with his. He claims increases of 25+ HP and 4 mpg and you get free updates for life!!
Oh, and chuck, I'm gonna mail you the instructions I have.

Ok Gents,
UPDATE:
I found out that R&D went out of business. That's why they don't appear on the web anymore and you can longer contact them. Too bad.
I phoned another company www.jpcustoms.com and they said you had to replace the BCM. I'm going to try and put a switch in line with one wire from the Light Sensor and see what happens.
I'll keep you posted.

You have to use your personal truck for this, that kinda sucks doesn't it?

J,
The Nelson sounds pricey but 25 horses and 4mpg...that part sounds good, my poor Sil. is a 4.3 and needs all the help it can get in both areas.

Nahh, its not too bad. We work on an "on call" status b/c the town is so small we haven't gotten a full-time system going yet, everyone just responds from home or wherever they are at the time. Plus, my truck is waaay faster than the F-250 Superduty V-10 we have...they can't hold a candle to the Silvy...lol:icon16:

I'm supposed to order mine today, I feel that after talking to Mr Nelson that we can get it exactly how I want it. Also, the free upgrades for life, man you can't beat that.. even with a stick!

What does a Nelson tune run if you dont mind me asking and are they available for all engines. I assume they are custom programed as to the users needs. Also is it the same principal as the hypertec type tuning deal. like I said before my Sil is a 4.3, Itraded my 94 5.0 mustang in for it I love the truck but miss the GO when you stomp on the slanty pedal.
