Question about a nitrous system.

How does it work? Some people at my school think that when you use the nitrous you can't stop until the bottle is empty. They say there is no way to use it in town because of this. Is this bullshit or is it true.

I always thought you could stop. But I don't really know now.

Nitrous is an oxygen bearing gas that is injected into the fuel/air intake charge. it works on the same principle as a supercharger and a turbo charger, that is, cramming as much oxygen into the combustion chamber as possible to make more power due to a more volatile explosion. the advantage of nitrous is that since it is a gas that is injected into the intake charge through fogging (spraying into where air is taken in, before fuel atomization from the jets(carb) or injectors(fuel injection)), or direct injection into each intake runner in the manifold, it doesn't rob horsepower through parasitic drag on the rotating assembly(supercharger), and it doesn't cause bog or backpressure on the throttle response and the exhaust(turbocharger)

to answer your question about using nitrous, you can do it a few ways. you can have a manual on/off control (most common) or a few people i know have it setup with a computer to kick in at a specific RPM and then shut off at a certain RPM. Nitrous is generally used at high RPM's when and engine starts to near or pass the main spike or peak of the power curve in order to overcome high rpm power drop off. it is usually not used in the lower rpms due to traction problems occuring which is dependent on the car's base power and power curve.

And no, you don't not have to use the entire bottle each time you use it. But they still are not street legal.

Sparco has a neat little button under "steering wheels" and "accessories" like the one in Fast and Furious on the dude's steering wheel that lets you control N20 release.

most people shouldnt even think about putting nitrous on their car. My friend told me he was going to put nos on his civic v-tech, i asked him what nos stands for and he didnt even know! Before you even think about nitrous you have to understand that your car is not built to handle nitrous, you have to have all performance parts and alot of modifications just to withstand nos, and even with the best parts your engine will still only last about 30000 miles, I dont think that nos is even worth the money and hassle just get a turbo!

I wasn't planning on getting any upgrades for my car. Too much money and my parents probably wouldn't let me.
