I'm looking for a good sub for my room. Do you guys have any suggestions for a loud, nice sounding one? I've considered using a car sub, with an external amp and car battery, but I'd rather get a home sub with an internal amp....less wires and all. The only problem is that I dont know if any are loud enough without paying crazy prices. I'm looking for something that can peak at at least 800 watts, and is at least 350 watts rms. Any recomendations(sp?)?

Well, in my house, we have 8 total subwoofers in many rooms. Our home entertainment system holds 2000 watts of subwoofer power with 3 subs. The computer has 320watts with 3 subs, our 2ndary game center room has 2 subwoofers and around 400 watts, and finally there's another 100 watt one in one of our rooms.
I suggest you get a JBL PB12, it's a 12" subwoofer with 250 watts of power. It has a punch to it, the low end is really nice and deep. Although I don't personally own this subwoofer, my uncle does and he loves it, i've heard it and it can hold it's own. :)

I haven't gone to any stores yet, just internet shopping. So far, I've mainly only looked at MTX and JBL. Also, the only audiophile store around me is Tweeter, and they mainly deal with car audio, and home entertainment(TV's, and subs/speakers made for movies). I realize that most home subs will work well for music, even if they're made for movies, video games, and what not.

If they deal mainly with car audo then they aren't and audiophile store. I don't know what you are thinking wanting to get JBL and MTX. You need a good sub. You need to look at Velodyne and Sunfire. They are high powered and sound better than any other sub I've ever heard. The problem is money. They aren't cheap at over $1,000 and they are VERY high powered.
How much are you looking to spend?

I can spend about $400. Do any of you guys know any decent chain stores that mainly deal in home audio?

What do you want a noisy sub for? That just means its easier to find you on sonar and track you. The Akula is a nice, quiet sub you might like.

Well, in that case you aren't going to be able to buy an extemely nice sub. What I would do is head to an Ultimate Electronics, Circuit City, or Soundtrack. They sell some Velodyne subs for around that price. They are very good for the pric3 and will shake your room like no other. They just don't have the class D ampslifiers in them like the expensive ones do that will shake your whole damn town.
