On a turbo exhaust mainfold.
A 2 cylinder wouldnt be able to power the turbo worth shit, the engine doesnt spit out exaust fast enough or at a constant rate since its a 2banger the exhaust pulses are too far apart.

Except that's not how turbos work. They use the expansion of the superhot gasses to drive the power turbine, not the force of the exhaust coming out of the engine. No engine would have enough power to run a turbo if it relied on that.
But two cylinders still won't run a turbo.

:eek7: as long as the bike is a 4 stroke im pretty sure its possible, i have a copy of dirt wheels (a four wheeler...ATV mag) and there is some guy in hawaii (spelling) that has produced turbo chargers for his Honda 400EX, which is a 400cc 4 stroke single cylinder engine, and his Yamaha Raptor which has a 660cc 4 stroke single cylinder engine... why wouldnt a 2 cylinder engine be able to have a turbo charger??... or am i just plain stupid? :screwy:

I know Honda once did a CX650 Turbo.
It's V2 with one Turbo. Try the internet to find info on that bike.

the little Smart car is a 3 cylinder engine, and thats turbocharged. So why not on a 2 cylinder? i dont see why it shouldnt work, as long as its a 4 stroke engine. I know you cant turbocharge a 2 stroke, buts thats why they have tuned exhaust systems to use the pressure waves to allow more fuel mixture to be forced into the cylinder . . . but dont people put twin turbos on 4-banger car engines? that means 2 cylinders driving each turbo.
Plus ive just had a quick search on google and tamiya actually do a kit of the honda CX500 v-twin turbo. So it must be possible.

I am not sure how the turbo setup is on bikes or jap cars, but a person I know twin turbocharged his dodge shadow. It had two mitsu turbos, one for two cylinders. When he first started it he didnt think it would actually work but it did both turbos spooled up fine. Besides it a model you dont really need to worry about it functioning. I think it would look good. But hey its your choice not ours.

Oh yeah one more thing. There is also another person who has turbocharged a one cylinder 5.0hp honda mower motor. Yes it is functional too. So if that motor can spool up a turbo why wouldnt any other? You can check out that motor at http://www.tgfab.com/Funny.htm and here http://www.sdsefi.com/features/apr00stool.htm . Again I says its a model if you think you will like it build it.

i just think that if you had ever riden a big twin then you would realise that a turbo would ruin everything about it, they are graceful powerful machines and so far have escaped turbos because of their style and presence, why not just add some nitrous tanks as a compromise, also a v twin is a compact machine, where would the turbo go? underneath, at the back because you dont want the exhaust too long or twisted, then you will need a form of intercooler, where would that mount.
in the end a 4 cylinder has front mounted downpipes and is more spacious and acomodating, please dont turbo the beutiful ducati

Yeah you are right about it being tight but not all turbocharged motors need an intercooler. Most turbo dodges that are turbo I do not have intercoolers yes they help out when you go big into the boost but if it is just a low boost level say 0-10 psi you are ok. Never riden a twin but I am sure a turbo would still improve it. Yeah the exhaust setup would be weird.

I fully agree!
A turbo would ruin that unique sound that Ducati's have.
Please, don't do it!

yeah i would agree too about it not being "right", ive ridden pillion on a honda SP1 with twin renegade titanium pipes, which sounded almost as good as a ducati, and bastardising it with the hiss of a couple of turbos would just be wrong. It would probably go like s**t off a shovel, but it wouldnt be cool, and would take away from the reason buy ducatis in the first place- the pure italian style. :sunglasse

I haven't seen an engine that can not be turbocharged single, twin, tripple, four cylnder etc. I have riden raptors and a vulcon both turbocharged, try www.mrturbo.com or www.mrturbo.com.au

Turbocharging your Ducati sounds like a great ideal! I've have a turbo Monster for serveral years and love it. The 60% increase in horsepower and torque and the killer sounds is great.
Currently no one is producing turbo or supercharger kits for Ducati's, but putting a custom kit together isn't as hard as it sounds. There are several example of Turbo Charged Ducati's and some helpful information on making your own available on the DucCutters web site.

Here's one of my favorite Turbo Ducati videos. It's Wayne Patterson's Turbocharged Ducati 900 SuperSport. on the dyno. Wayne's bike is for drag racing only, putting out 215Hp.

Hun, I know you're new and all, but I figured I'd point out that this thread is over 5 years old. Even my technotarded mom could have noticed a dead thread when she saw one. Please don't resurrect ancient threads.
