How difficult is it to replace the struts on a '92 88 Royale? Do you need to use a spring compressor? Tahnks in advance for any help and advice.

This is not a job for a occasional mechanic!! You don't use a spring compressor, but you need a STRUT compressor, safety stands, a hydraulic floor jack & a torque wrench capable of 180 ft-lbs. I suggest you find a compentent mechanic or repair shop!!

i have changed my own struts on my 92 myself in my driveway ..but i do agree with OldsmobileKid on this one ...not only you need these things if u dont mark the correct way the struts came off you can loose your wheel alignment in the proccess .. things like this your better off going to a place to get them done since they have the proper tools . changing them are not hard it's the spring compressor and the wheel alignment that makes them a "real" fun thing to handle :)
besides you can shop around and find a good deal on getting them done

Do it safely

Happy Motoring
