I was driving down US31 on the way home when a car sped through a stop sign (not a four-way. Just stop for him as traffic on the highway is perpendicular). He was going about fourty. Just missed the car that was about 200 yards in front of us. The idiot ended up fourty feet into the grass on the other side of the road. Put it in reverse and went as fast as he could back onto the highway in the long lane - still in reverse. That last action is the one that nearly caught us.

At first I thought he had lost his brake or something so I had slowed down to see if he needed help. But, once I saw him floor it in reverse like that, I hit the gas and got pase where he came back onto the road. I watched in the rear view mirror to see what he would do next (like if he were to come my way) and the idiot kept going in reverse down the road in the wrong lane.

I got actually hit by some fucker who went through a red light.

First accident (other than *coughsignscough*) in 4 years driving. Not too bad.

Once, while making a left turn I was in the clear - until some complete moron in a Ford SUV comes out of parking lot, on the other side of the street, makes a u-turn across all of the lane (four of them) and then nearly runs right into me (I was already in the intersection by now, and the light was yellow by now too) and has the nerve to blow his horn too. Because I had to slam on the brakes not to hit him, I ended up running a red light.

Another time, on the freeway - I was in the intermediate lane just passing an on ramp. Their was a guy towing a huge trailer coming on the on ramp, gaining speed to get onto the highway. As soon as he gets on the highway, traffic in the slow lane stops - he swerved bettween two stopped cars, and into the lane I was in, about two feet from my rear bumper. That was a really close one. (And I had already floored it when I saw that traffic had stopped in the slow lane, and that this truck and trailer was about to cause an accident, I had no idea that'd he'd swerve into my lane - if I'd been going slower I probably wouldn't have that car today)

Way back when (2years ago), my buddy decided to do a top speed run on a bridge, unfortunately I was in the car too. We were doin' about 120mph, and we hit a patch of black ice. That sent the car spinning at 120mph, we must have spun around 5 or 6 times, but we ended up just tapping the cement barrier on the edge of the bridge. Scared the crap outta me, but my buddy felt so bad that he bought me dinner, so it was cool.

Okay so.. because I live in Texas (in the country, mind you..), we have problems with cows getting out and going into the road or whatever.. So I was driving home LATE one night from a party and this person was coming towards me and all of the sudden their headlights were in my lane... In order to miss them (we were both going at LEAST 60), I had to drive straight onto the shoulder and NOT hit my brakes.. I hit the gas trying to get past them before we collided. If I would have hit the brakes, they would have hit me and I would have been thrown into the ditch. Come to find out, there was a HUGE bull in the center of the road and I saw him as I passed the car (out of the corner of my eye because I was trying to focus on not slamming into mailboxes). The car had to come into my lane AND then proceed on to the shoulder on my side.. It was scary.

Another time, I was driving in the middle of a city and this 02 Mustang was beside me.. It was one of my friends and my friend and him were talking about going to some races out 155 Hwy. Well this older model Mustang with mods comes speeding up behind me (it was a three lane road) and passes me in the TURNING LANE. There was a truck in the turning lane, he swerved.. The mustang swerved into an 18-wheeler.. The 18-wheeler slammed on its brakes and jack-knifed. My friend and I hit the brakes and he went towards the right, I went towards the left into my turning lane to avoid the accident. Three cars collided. Fortunately, mine was not one of them.

And that's all I've got for now.

there was the accident that wrecked my car. i missed a turn and slammed on my brakes, forgetting that i didn't have ABS. my wheels locked up, and since i had already entered the turn, i hit the curb sideways at 85km/h. it ruined my front left suspension and frame, and the car is a write-off, but the "close" part is that if we had gone a foot farther inwards on the curb, there was a big ol' Oak tree with our name on it waiting right in front of us, about a foot from the car.

then another day, we were driving in rain. i was following a safe distance behind this pick-up truck, which was behind a BMW. we were all doing about 85km/h on an 80km/h road. at the very last possible second, the asshole in the Bimmer decides to put on his brakes and turn into a driveway. the truck stopped fine, but (again forgetting i didn't have ABS) i hit my brakes and my tires locked up in the wetness. i turned the wheels and nothing. we were in a dead slide heading straight for the back of the pick-up. i was panicking, but somehow got my wits about me to start pumping the brakes. this cause my wheels to catch all of a sudden and my car veered onto the gravel shoulder. we missed the back bumper of the truck by about 3 inches i would guess.

and then, just yesterday, i was driving home in my dad's mini-van (my car is wrecked). driving on a downhill part of one of the roads in my subdivision that leads into a gradual right-hander. i was driving in my lane, when this F-350 comes flying around the corner (going the opposite way), driving IN THE MIDDLE of the road. 2 of his tires were in my lane, 2 in the other. i veered onto the shoulder and leaned onto the horn, and this ass-handle actually has the cojones to flip ME off. some people deserve to have their asses glued to the PASSENGER seat.

*edit* just thought of the other day on the way back from the beach. i was passing some guy who was doing 70 in an 80, and as i'm in the other lane, passing him, some MORON turns out of his driveway into the lane i'm in, heading the opposite way. he then notices that i'm coming straight at him, veers into the shoulder, and, again, he flips ME off. maybe if you'd taken the time to look both fucking ways instead of just flying out of your driveway, jack-ass...:shakehead:

when I was still driving the B12, it was winter and really bad ice was everywhere....I live on top of a hill and I was driving to school and I didn't notice the large patch of black ice until I lost control of my B12, did a 1080 down the hill, and got wedged in between 2 snow banks.....all I could say was thank goodness for the snowbanks because if not I would of went into a telephone pole

1. Driving back from the snow a few weeks ago (7 hour trip, 4 hours sleep the night before, not wise, no choice) my attention slipped for a second or 2 at 130km/h (80mph) and drifted over those 'ripple strips'. If it was about 2 seconds before, would've collected the guy stopped in the breakdown lane. Made me REALLY concentrate for the next 2.5 hours.

2. Going 110km/h, some guy tried to merge INTO me. Got on the horn, he was oblivious, would've braked, but someone was riding my ass so I dropped to fourth and punched it. Would've only cleared him by about 20cm. Turned out to be some senile >80 Asian asshole in a Camry. I then proceeded to brake check him 10 mins later. :nono:

3. Overtaking a semi trailer and saw lights coming towards me. Was driving a WRX at the time, so merely dropped to third, punched it and left about 2 car lengths either side. Not a wise move.

Haha closest I ever came to getting into an accident woulda been last winter driving in a Blizzard, on an unplowed highwaydoing about 70km/h staying in some other poor bastards tracks that were there before mine all while a plow was barreling down on me doing well over 100km/h. Or another time while driving in a snow-storm I attempted a few drifts in my beater 87 cutlass and almost clipped some little Suv hahaha could see the whites in their eyes :iceslolan

Dude...I know exactly what you're talking about. My buddies grandman has a lot of land and we went out there to have a bon fire(its by the Brazos River) and drink and what not. Anyways, he was up there doing something at night out in the pasture(probably drunk and being a dumbass. Well he ended up hitting a cow that was sleeping. It sent him flying and he got pretty fucked up.

1. Got rear-ended at a stop sign to the tune of $500 damage and permanent neck injury.
2. 1 month later, driving on ice for first time, tapped brakes, went into skid, spun out into 4' high snowbank. No damage.
3. Driving on freeway, 12' extension ladder falls off truck's trailer and goes through radiator of vehicle next to me. Truck pulls over and reverses up the freeway with trailer attached.
4. Driving on freeway, wheel falls off different trailer and nearly hits me.
5. Driving in town, 45mph limit, giant couch in middle of road.
6. Driving in town, same block of same street as in 5, 85 yr old man in Chrysler pulls out in front of me, stopping abruptly in my lane. No choice but to total car.
7. One week later, green VW NewBeetle pulls out in front of me, nearly causing accident.
8. Green NewBeetle attempts to change lanes into me.
9. Nearly T-boned, from now on I check both ways before proceeding at green light.
10. Green NewBeetle tries to kill me again (I forget how).

All incidents within two years time. Welcome to Utah. Those are only the ones I remember.

Had a "Near head-on" with a Peugeot 307 last month. Came over a slight rise on a hill and this woman was driving up MY side of the road, just managed to squeeze enough of my car off the road to avoid her!!!

I have a few (most in Tenn.)
This is when I was working at a warehouse doing delivery:
- I'm in a 10 ft. truck doing about 50 on the highway when all of a sudden a garbage truck turns into the highway and stops in front of me. I had to risk running into opposite traffic to get around it.

- When I had a co-worker with me one time, I had drifted asleep behind the wheel. If it wasn't for him alerting me, I probably wouldn't be here today.

- On my last day of work before moving to Maryland I'm in my boss's (sp) minivan doing local delivery. I was like 2 miles form returning to the warehouse when I enter a merge area that connected off a highway. I was already in the far lane so that a dump could merge in. Some guy in a Toyota truck behind the big rig jumps two lanes into my lane. We were probably 2 inches from an accident (that would be a bummer, wrecking your boss's van on your last day of work :headshake ). I had to swerve into a concrete part (we was under a open bridge at the time) which then turned into a turning lane where I stopped to take a breather. The guy evantually let me go on in front of him and I shook my head at him.

Then there are countless of close calls at my current job now.

wow, sounds like alotta bad drivers out there(not the ones who posted their stories), what u should do is contact ur local police depot, they might have a system or number where u could report bad drivers after these close encounters of yours.. but keep em coming.
come 2 think of it, my mom told me a story with my dad b4, my mom b4 in the early 90s owned and drove a Lexus ES300, and when ever my dad drove it, somthing alway happend 2 him in that car. once on the Garden State Parkway, he was driving the ES300 behind a truck with a large powerboat and the boat fell on the car, and took out the whole engine, another incident when my mom was given a new Lexus ES300 was my dad again drove the Lexus, and this was on Interstate 80, an 18 wheeler driving behind and to the rite began passing my dad when the tires on the trailer blew in the left and jack-knifed and reared the car at 80 mph. so bad luck 4 my dad wit my moms old lexus.
then i remembered my bmw, i was driving it during the giant snowstorm the northeast had during this past mid-february, and i was going up like this bunny hill, and my wheels started spinning, they werent cathing the road, and i stalled on the hill, then began drifting backward toward this ditch, where there were barracades which blocked a steep 200 ft drop, with soo much fear i switched the traction control off and floored it as my wheels smoked. i had the sport package which only came with performance tires, not all-season, i made it up the hill, with out any damage. soo that was scary

Well I've only been legally driving by myself for a month, so I haven't had many close calls, but the most obvious one was when I was turning left into a side street, dropped from 4th to 3rd, on the brakes slowing down, was just about to enter the corner (probably about 35km/h) when I saw another car turning right into the same street. Now legally I have to give way and wait for him to go through, but I didn't see him because he had come out of a blind S curve, and he was right in my window pillar blindspot, so I carried around the corner, dropped it to 2nd floored it, jumped to redline and spun the tires all the way up the street.

Gotta love RWD and wet roads.

Well I have had two crashes in different cars. One completely and utterly my fault the other I still blame the taxi driver for. The first one was with the taxi driver. We came upto a junction with a major road but there was a slip road on the junction for turning left. So he is at the lights stopped and decides he is going to move of turning left. So I start moving up and looking to my right to see if there is any traffic coming I then look up to realise the damn taxi driver decided to stop halfway through the junction. Of course I rear-ended him. No damage to his car because he had a tow-bar instead I had a busted front bumper and burst radiator.

The second time through Dublin city centre I just completely took my eyes off the road and rear ended an Afla 146 again most of the damage to my car and thankfully he only needed his rear bumper replaced.

Lots of near ones, people not indicating for turns and on motorways but three stand out. One day I was going to the local shopping centre and decided I would take the back roads. Hopefully no traffic and definately no cops. So Im doing about 75-80mph on this back road but I could see for about a mile and a half in front. I see this truck coming up so I start to slow down to about 40mph but I realise the fucker in the truck decides he is going to stay in the middle of the road. I have to move over even more and nearly end up in the ditch with the truck going by about 6 inchs from my wing mirror. That was bad enough but worse still further down the same road I was doing about 50mph when another truck appears and we are both heading for a narrow part of the road I realise that I am going to fast and get on the brakes only for the brakes to lock up on me as Im going down hill. The back end of the car fish tails towards the truck. Well at this stage I was starting to make my peace with god thinking the lights are about to go out. Thats until I came to my senses and got of the brake. I think after that I drove about 30mph I was so scared.

The other one that stands out I was again on some back roads all-though much better and wider ones but I was following a truck that I couldnt pass until we made a right turn onto the better roads. So I look up the road to see if there is anything coming and its all clear. We were on a bend going to the left when I over took well I was barely outf rom behind the truck when I saw a car about 5 lengths away in the opposite direction. I got on the brakes but turned in to early and got a very close few of the trucks rear tires. I actually think part of my car was under the rear of the truck.

I only use the motor way now. Quicker and relatively safer.

I'ven ever had any accidents, but i have had one close call. It was when i was just learning to drive, and i was driving in my parents minivan.

I was driving down a 4 lane street, on the far right lane. someone turned left from the oncoming lane infront of me, to go into a parking lot. However, when they were halfway over the curb they had to stop, with their back end stuicking out info traffic. I had to cut off a guy behind me just to get out of the way.

Time: 2:00am
Where: Down Town Saint Petersburg, FL
I was heading north on 3rd avenue going about 30mph with a cop caddy corner from me to my left and up about one car length. As we approached 5th street north...a woman in a beat up old duster ran a stop light with a passenger. The cop didn't even have time to hit his brakes...t-boned the "buster" (feel bad for the passenger), was spun 180 degrees into my lane, and I ran head on into the cop. I didn't even have a second to brake. The "buster" did about 3 360's and hit a light pole on the opposite side of the intersection. To give you an idea or the size of the intersection....3rd avenue is 4 lanes wide and 5th street is about 3 lanes wide. The "buster" was in the right lane...closest to us in the intersection. Needless to say...the cop car didn't have that much damage but my Civic was hurtin' pretty bad. What was really funny was the cop driving was taking an undercover cop back to his car. The undercover cop was in the back seat w/out a seat belt. He flew into the plexy-glass at 30 mph and nailed his forehead. I felt bad for the guy but was chuckling on the inside I must admit!
