removing dashboard/swapping radio 2003 silverado

I want to swap in a Delco AM/FM/CD/Cassette RDS for my base radio that only has the CD. How do I get the old radio out - does the whole dashboard have to come out ??? I see a row of screws down at the bottom of the dash, but are there clips up top that I have to be careful not to break ? How long is this job going to take ?

Any help appreciated.

If you '03 is anything like my '00, the front ot the dash just sort of pops out. It's held in by metal clips. Once the front of the dash is out, the radio can be removed.

I have a 2003 and replaced the stock radio with an aftermarket one. The dash is held on only by clips. You can pop it out with a screw driver. If you have an automatic transmission it makes it alot easier to put the transmission into first gear so the dash comes straight out. The radio is held in by three screws. Take the screws out and pull out the antenna wire out the back of the radio and then disconnect the wiring harness also. Now if your aftermarket radio is not the same size as the stock one (which is big) your going to need an installation kit for it. Also a wiring harness to go from the stock harness to the new radio is highly recomended, it simplifies the wiring and if you ever have to put the stock radio back in it will be very easy. You will have to buy a gm antenna adapter because the stock antenna adapter wont plug into your aftermarket radio. I'd also suggest using butt splice connectors or soldering and wires together instead of using electrical tape or wire caps. The whole job should take about an hour or two. Good luck.

p.s. I think you have to cut the factory clip off the ground wire to connect it to the new wiring harness dont really remember my stock radio only stayed in the truck two days

2003 switched a lot, there won't be any switched power at the deck and you'll also lose your door chime and onstar if equipped. there are a few adapters out there that will give you ability to put in aftermarket radios. Metra is one such company i know of, search around to find your adapter. Also, make sure your new kit is for the 2003, because the 99-02 won't work.
