resetting the instrument cluster

I had to disconnect the battery on my 97 Olds Cutlass to replace the battery terminal. When I reconnected the battery, the water temperature gauge was pegged below the bottom. The dealer said that the instrument panel needs to be reset when the battery is reconnected, but I can't find any information about how to do it.
