I know exactly how you feel. I never dated alot in high school or college. All of my friends were dating, and if they broke up with their guy, they had another within a week. I would date a guy for 3 dates then never hear from him again, then a year or so would pass before I even had another date. Trust me it sucked. On top of that, in college I watched all my other girlfriends get married and move away and I still had no one by my side. But when Alex did finally come into my life, he made all that time I spent wishing seem insignificant.

I will say this: being "alone" is certainly better than being stuck with someone who is abusive. I have watched my sister go thru a 13 year marriage from hell, and her new husband is no better than the first. I have seen what happens when people get involved too young, too quick. There is alot of knowledge to gain and lessons to learn just by observing others. Most of my friends that did get married....well they met their guy and started dating, a month later got engaged, and then 6 months from there got married. Some are still together and "tolerating" each other, others have been divorced and have bitter relations with their ex's.

I know its not an easy time. But think of it this way too...while you are single, you can do whatever the hell you want and not be accountable to anyone (unless you are underage and under parental authority of course). You can go anywhere, do anything. And when someone who will be good to you and accept you for who you are comes along, it will be worth the wait. And even though Alex and I are happy, there are still some days we both appreciate a day away from each other just to get little personal things done or just a little change in pace.

I saw an interesting quote several years ago...I think it may have been on a bumper sticker: "I'd rather be terminally single than terminally married"

Katwoman...so true!! :)

SmallTownDiva...don't u worry girl, someone will come along when u least expect it, in the meantime don't waste your time with any losers, just get out there and enjoy life. A gal that's out there, having fun, and doing her own thing, is the one the guys will notice ;)

Glad to hear you are feeling better :) Having good girlfriends to hang with and do silly stuff with is always a good thing to have while you are waiting. I had a group of about 7 good friends before we all went our separate paths in life and we had the best time together. I still look back on those days fondly and still hope someday we can all get together again maybe for a weekend and go have some good ol girlie fun.

Once more I've sworn off guys (mostly b/c every time I do I end up with someone better---MOSTLY ;) )

I've decided to move to Switzerland, become a nun, and sing w/the VonTrapp family (if you don't get it, then you haven't seen "The Sound of Music")

She even got the guy in the end :D

Being single when it seems that everyone around you is hooking up can be difficult. I have been there, I know how you feel. But I think that Kat really did a good job with her post. Being single has so many wonderful advantages, just as being in a relationship does too. But I do firmly believe that love happens when you least expect it. This is what I have experienced. And maybe it happens when you least expect it because when you're not conscientially looking for it, your guard is down. You let yourself go and be who you truly are and that is by far the most attractive thing in a person...who they are inside. When you let that shine through, someone will take notice. And when it happens, you'll realize just how lucky you are. Good luck girl, if you need anything, I'm here for you! :)

Same here :( I wonder that all the time. I've liked the same 3 guys for the past 2½~3 years! One finally asked me to go somewhere with him, and my mom wouldnt let me out because I was sick. I'm hoping he comes around asking again, or at least gives me a chance to ask him. We did have a great night at the club, and then a great slow dance, my friends think its a sign...
All my friends have boyfriends, or have had one recently, it sucks! Sorry for goin on about it though! :)

Btw~ Great post Kat!
