Just wandering which most memorable motoring moment all of u guys will have?
Here's my top three.
1. The opening and final scene of "The Italian job" (Miura in the alps and Minis in Milan)
2. The opening scene of "Taxi" (a scooter trashing down Marseille's street with Pulp Fiction soundtrack)
3. The against the traffic chase in "Ronin" (Simple but good damn effective chase in Paris)
P.S. I'm talking about full length movie here, no tv programs or short film or advert...

He's right, Bullit was the best damn car chase, because it was real. Even though they lost 11 hubcaps from 1 car during the chase and passed the same beetle 5 times doesn't make a difference. It is non-stop chasing, and is really cool, except the ending, with the fast motion skidding out, that was lame.
I suggest to any and all of you to watch the chase scene in bullit if you havn't already. We like to call it the "15 minute movie" because all the acting in the rest of it sucks. :)

The original gone in 60 seconds wasn't a measly 15 min car chase, it was a 45 min car chase, and they only used ONE mustang. It needed to be repaired a few times, but still. ONE car.
What about Vanishing Point? It was a chase almost through the whole movie.

OMG hasn't anyone heard of Smokey and the Bandit? It might not be the fastest paced or have the great sound effects like new movies but hey.............it was darn cool.

taxi 2 also had 2 great chases
1-at the start of the movie the taxi(a white v6 peugeot 406)storms down the mountain roads with a pregnant woman in the back and he catches up on a rally peugeot 206 in and he passes him while drifting in a u-turn
2-in the same movie when he has to go to the airport for a client .the road ahead is a long 270 deg. turn and he passes by the exterior a ducatti 749s

Gone in 60 seconds(1974)was THE car chase movie.
Everything done in the movie is real. No handbrakes, no oil, no stunt cars, no stunt drivers, no bullshit car setups except for a roll cage in the mustang. The 1 car was used throughout the entire film.
45 minute chase scene, 94 cars wrecked.
One hell of a chase- The acting is a little cheesy, granted. But that's because there were no actors- the cops were cops, the firemen were firemen, the mayor was the mayor, yadda yadda yadda.
Pick up a copy- they re-released it when the one with Nick Cage came out. You won't be sorry:)

I gotta go with Vanishing Point. The whole movie is ONE chase scene!!! With excellent visuals, camera angles, the car wasn't mod'd all up like todays movie cars. It was an off-the-lot 440 Challenger that took all the abuse it was given, and asked for more.

Bullit was good, Vanishing point was great as well (remember when he changed the tire to the spare, do you really think that came out of the trunk?) The italian job, original, was awesome. And though not necessariky a car chase, Gran Prx the movie had some awesome real life driving as well a Leman.

I'm so glad that other people mentioned Ronin. It is my favorite action movie of all time and I think those car chases are the best too. I've heard repeatedly that Bullitt is the best, but i haven't checked it out yet.

Wow this is an old thread - but since it's back I gotta add The French Connection and The Seven Ups to the list. The French Connection won all kinds of Academy Awards including Best Editing (very important for a good car chase scene). The Seven Ups was directed by Philip D'Antoni, who also produced Bullitt and The French Connection.
They didn't win any awards for sound effects, because you can see most of the cars involved in the chases are automatics, but you hear sound effects of a manual transmission changing gears.
