Depending on the motor inthe vette, you are going to get spanked.

Depends on how much your civic weighs. 85's are about 3100 pounds, with 230 horsepower and 330 ft-lbs. So as long as your civic is in the 2200-2300 pound curb weight category you should beat him.

Those older vettes aren't that fast (when compared to their current cousins) - you may stand a chance if the race is short enough. The longer it goes, the stronger the Vette will be.

I think it will be the other way around - Low horsepower and fairly big torque make for something that will outpower him off the line but die on the top end.

Actually, I think the Vette if in good condition.. will take him off the line and just pull away. The car is basically a fiberglass shell around a motor. They're geared for 'economy' which means its good for highway cruising...err racing...er cruising.. whatever...

Point is, if the Vette's motor is in good shape it'll get to 140mph with ease.

My friend had an 85 Vette and even though it's not suppose to be one of the better Vettes the thing still pulled to 140mph like nothing. I was rather impressed :2cents:

sorry to say but that vette will tear you up, the stock times are hi 13s to low 14s, did he do any aftermarket work on it?

With 190 WHP and weighing in at less than 2000 pounds you think that the vette will tear him up? With 230 horsepower the vette would be putting around 190 to the wheels, and has a 1000 pound weight disadvantage.

You're forgetting the Vette's lowend torque, once it's moving its horsepower and better aerodynamics will carry it along much faster than that of a boxy hatchback.

Lets not forget he said he only runs mid 14s... a '85 Vette can do that if its in good condition... but as I mentioned Vette's are geared for highway cruising... which makes for good top end.

Oh, and your ricer math is off... the Hatchback weighs about 2300-2400lbs. Not less than 2000lbs.

vettes arent even made for quarter-mile performance but most C4 vettes ran 13-14s stock, so if its in mint condition like you said he will probably win. the vettes torque is the major advantage.

vette w/ an AVERAGE driver=u losing.

vette w/ a newbie driver=u having a chance.

sorry buddy, not to knock ur car or anything, cuz it sounds decently quick, jus there is a lot more to a race than the hp/weight type idea. torque will play a huge part in it, an i jus don't see u overcoming 1/2 a second unless he REALLY can't drive or u strip out ur car so its jus ur seat on metal w/ the motor.

but, race away man...its jus for fun right? :grinyes:

Whoops my bad... I forgot he mentioned his car weighed in at less than 2000lbs...

Not sure how he got it so light but things are possible.

:sorry: Sorry boosted331, I goofed. :p

i believe this is the same post as one that i answered in another subforum .... anyway i did some research in the chevy forum and they all told me that a 85 vette will run a low 15 1/4 mile stock. with a full open exhaust and some other things one guy told me he ran 14.3 with his 85 vette so this guy with a 14.4 should beat a stock 85 vette.

just letting you guys know...

There is a sticker on my vette located in d/s door jamb -
WARNING - For high speed driving(above 150MPH) inflate tire pressures above 32psi:bigthumb:

Usually when I take it out everyone that pulls up to me wants to race :nono: There a very few times I get on it for that reason, usually let the car get ahead me a couple of car lenghts & nail it! 330HP LT4 6-speed with mild mods no 1/4 mile runs.

ZR1's had the quad-cam 385 or 405 horsepower LT5.

All 1996 six-speed Corvettes had the LT4. The A4's had the LT1. This was so Corvette buyers still had incentive to buy, despite the coming of the C5.
