First Car: Celica GT?

Hello!

I am 17 and I live in Maine. I am buying my first car and I need something that is a decent first car, not asking it to live 10 years even. I need something that will be GOOD in snow. And I want a CAR!!! I would also like something sporty and fast off the line because I like beating people at red lights!!! :)

I came across a 95 Celica GT Sport Coupe 2d.

Its white, the paint is pretty flawless. But the roaters and breaks are rusted prolly need to be replaced. It wont come with a radio, and the rims are in crappy condition, the clear coat came off so they look ghey!

It has 178,000 miles. I don't know much more about it other then what I told you, no mods I could see.

I look at price tag he wants 4,500. Now I looked it up on interenet and every place said it was worth less.

So basically I am asking this, is this a practical car for SNOW (usually not that bad it gets plowed so it wouldn be over 4 inches, i wouldnt drive right after a storm) And with those things having to be replaced (roaters/breaks) What should I offer him.

Inside appulstry (spellcheck) looks ok.

If you think this would be a bad car for me let me know, other stuff I am looking at are: Dodge Stealths, Eclipse's, Mazda MX6's

well its front wheel drive so it wouldn't be to bad in snow. that is a lot of miles for that car and that price is VERY high for all those miles. I recommend you go to blue book kelleys website, you can type in the info on the car and they will tell you how much it is worth.

Yea i did they said 3,800. I always use KBB. But I was just lookin for a little more insite on the car.

well its a toyota so you can count on the reliability. but with the problems you listed, brakes and wheels, etc. i don't think you should buy it unless you can get the guy down to about that much. go post this in the toyota celica forum.

Uh this is in the Celica forum.......... and I can tell the brakes and roaters are screwed. They have so much rust on them.

new brakes and rotors are gonna cost you about $90 for all four rotors and another $45 for the pads. so try and talk him down to about $3000. because if you dont know how to do the work yourself its gonna cost another $200 in labor costs.

would u choose a stealth over a celica?

I wouldnt. Celica may not look as cool but certainly will hold up better. Stealth will be pricier and have more probs mechanically with it. Celica is a great first car, yes and i would tell that guy to screw off with what he wants for it. 3000 at best. I can find way better deals out there. Unfortunately I'm having the same problem as to finding a nice sporty car that will still drive in the winter. If you have more ice around your area than snow, get rear drive and fill trunk with sand bags. Front wheel drive for more snow. Anyways, stick with celica unless you live in florida and have 5500 to buy a stealth. Why dont you get a loan also? You'll be able to afford a car nicer than the one you're talking about. No offense.

Since the celicas he is looking at are so old he wouldn't be able to get an unsecured auto loan...he would have to get a regular unsecured loan and with (I assume) zero credit history he would need someone to co-sign. Your parents might be alright with that or like mine and be completely against co-signing any loans.

About the car and winter driving

Ice and snow are for a fwd, 4wd and awd. mid engine rwd and front engine rwd cars are meant more for good conditions and they lose out to 4wd, awd and fwd once the conditions are worse than light/medium rain.

An eclipse isn't a bad choice as you can get them in both awd (gsx) and fwd (all other trims).Stealth is a car I would steer away from even though they look pretty nice are very fast. They have more problems than an eclipse or celica from what I've read and experienced. If you go one gen before the 95 celica they have awd offered.

If you're almost 18, some local banks do allow loans if you have 20% of what you're going to buy. No credit or co-sign shit needed for that.

good luck finding a GT-4 in good condition. ive been looking for 4 years and still havent found one for less than $8,000 that wasnt in california or florida. but if you do find one. they will smoke supras with the right mods. and are one of the best looking celicas made. but you can probably find an All-Trac in good condition for $4000. (86-88 i believe) they look great are turbo AWD id take one over a GSX eclipse anyday.
