I have a 2003 XTERRA XE.
The stock Step Rails are to close and to far under the body of the vehicle. They are useless right now for steping. Is there a way to extend them futher away from the body so they can be of use to short folks ?

Since this is a 4X4 board, most of us got rid of our step rails a long time ago. But you can space them out as long as you understand that there are risks of further weaking of an already pathetically weak bar. You can use longer bolts and a spacer behind the step bar pads to move it outboard. I would recommend using a plate steel spacer as opposed to washers or something. As long as you never take it off-road, you will be ok. If you ever take it off-road, make sure you remove the step bars to prevent it from destroying your rocker panels.
