I just bought a 2000 Maxima GXE.....great car. I do have one problem, the alarm seems to be overly sensitive to vibrations (heavy bass from a radio, slamming of door next to the car, etc.) Is there any way to adjust this?? Or can someone tell me how I can figure out if it is factory or after-market.

Thanks in advance.

What's up golf-dude, welcome to the forum. I have the same car as you (mine's is white) and I've never had any problems with the alarm, that is the first I've ever heard of bumps/heavy bass or doors slamming setting it off.

It sounds to me as if there's an aftermarket system on your vehicle, you may want to recheck your alarm connections and check your fuse as well. If not that then if your vehicle is still under warranty, take it into the dealer and have them look at it to see what's up with that.

Once again welcome to the forum and we'll be looking forward to seeing more from you.

I,m no expert but I just bought a 2001 Maxima GLE and had this exact problem.I do have 2 alarm systems. The one that was overly sensitive was the aftermarket one. This may be your problem as well. Now to correct this problem. As I was snooping around I found a little black rectangular box on the floor just ahead of the brake pedal. The box has two(2) markings.1 is "MORE SENSITIVE" 2 is "LESS SENSITIVE". Mine was adjustable using a very small slotted screw driver.I turned it towards the "less sensitive" direction and that was it!
Hope this helps.BTW does your "PANIC" button work on the key fob? Mine doesnt and I think that it has something to do with the aftermarket unit being hooked up.Good Luck.Tony.
