88' Honda Accord Eats Oil

My B/F recently bought me a 88' Honda Accord, just a few months ago, and it ran great, really quiet. Starting recently it's been acting weird, for starters when I start it in the morning, it usually dies about 2 or 3 times, even after I start to back out of my drive way. Another thing is, it's started to run really rough, I can hear it really loud when I take off the air filter lid (that's where the noise seems to be coming from). Lastly, it's started to eat oil, and no it didn't do that when I got it. It doesn't smoke, and it doesn't leak, I have no clue where it's going, but it eats a little over a quart a week. Any ideas??? Anything would be helpful, Thanks

Not saying this will fix your problem, but get some carb cleaner and spray it into the hole under the air filter lid.

well haha ur boy bought u a good car lol. carb cleaner would help but its hard to find the problem. change the oil though...go with a 10w30 or something....its really hard to say...gotta start somewhere though...

better yet get ur bf to fix it. burning oil is a sign of old engine...the seals inside just arent sealing and its being burnt off. try a 10w30 oil like i said or even a high milage oil. dont use no additives...

does the car stumble on acceleration...is it a manual?

It's really hard to say, need more info about what the car is doing. Go with a good high mileage oil, like Castrol syntec GTX or if you can afford it mobil 1, something with no detergents, a fully synthetic oil. Is the car starving for fuel? fuel/air mixture? Fuel pump? fuel filter clogged? fuel relay? Burning oil, is there smoke? what color? Good Luck.

for ur info...every oil has detergents. mobil 1 has detergents...everyone does.

the reasons why high milage oils work better at stopping leaks and blow by is that they have esters added in them. yet also if ur burning oil go with a thicker oil like instead of 5w30..hit up 10w30...actually even 15w30 if ur going with synthetic.

check ur pm in a little bit
