Cold Air Induction and MPG

Would getting a Cold Air Induction make my avg mpg go down?

and also that tornado (www.tornadoair.com) does that acually improve your mpg and horsepower? if so... how does it help? and what does it do?

1, dont waste your money on that tornado bullshit.
2, a CAI will improve your mileage, only if you drive like a normal person, but most people who do mods to there cars are to improve power, so they tend to drive faster, hence you will get less mpg.

true if you drive normal without excessive exceleration then the mpg does go up, but most people dont buy intakes to increase the gas mileage

:iagree: most people when the install any type of intake abuse the gas pedal because they think the loud noise is cool or something.

dont waste your $$$$ on the other thing. If you must have it, get a soup can & make your own.

A good friend of mine bought a tornado thing and nothing happened. He drives all highway miles for work and no change in gas mileage.

I put a AEM cold air intake on my civic and have noticed a .50 mpg change on average even with accelerating a little harder.

We dynoed a tornado on a 2001 mustang cobra just for the hell of it, and lost a solid 14 RWHP all the way across teh board. Think about it. You extrude hone and polish your intake to get rid of TINY restrictions and bumps and roughness. Same for your heads. Why would you go and purposely put in some metal hunk of crap that will "swirl" the intake flow, when the swirl effect is going to be totally canceled out by going through the intake and head(s) anyways.

ok could someone explain to me how a CAI would increases your mpg also? cause it seems if your getting more air in from the intake then your air and gas will mix faster... wasting more gas... but this is obviously wrong if it improves gas mileage :licka:

I'm not positive but I think it makes the air/fuel mixture a little more lean. Before my CAI my egr was spitting tons of unburnt fuel back into the intake and it just rested in a pocket specifically designed by honda so that the fuel wouldn't drip into the fitler and saturate it in gasoline? Sometimes the restrictive intake wasn't responding well with the throttle and fuel. Maybe my car was poorly tuned i don't know. But, when I put the CAI on it recycled the fuel better and must have made the engine respond a little better when i had one guy telling the other guy to put the fuel in because this is how much air i am going to give you said the engine...lol that doesn't make sense

I'll just reinforce what these guys are saying. Even my dinky SRI has improved my gas mileage (when I don't drive like a jackass), plus my intake & throttle body stay clean-I assume the rest of the engine has stayed cleaner as well.

I could speculate about what the CAI does (increased O2 content+more efficient air-flow= blah blah blah) but it wouldnt be the most technically correct explanation.

ok then what would be a good cold air intake to get for my 00' civic ex

so far im thinking about AEM, and is the AEM v2 really any better then the original ones aem had?

Intakes are intakes. AEM says the v2 is better....I would like to dyno a car myself with no mods besides CAI. Test all brands & find the REAL numbers. Then build one myself & compare that. Will that ever happen? No becasue intakes are intakes IMO only difference is HAI & CAI + :gives:
