well i was looking to import an EF9 over here to the states as a parts car and strip it out since i like the interior and they come stock with b16's......but i haven't found one yet just an 89 EF8 that's gray with a dohc ZC....itz an automatic...but itz only $1500 and itz $900 for shipping which is only $2400. here's my question...a friend said that he'd buy the shell if i got it and since he's gonna have to put a new engine and exhaust system on it...would that make it street legal since the emissions have been changed?? i know the main thing was emissions and the crash standards. but since the style was shipped to the states and resembles the ED6s and ED7s (88-91 civic hatchbacks) that we drive around do u think it would be a problem getting it legalized in the U.S.

it should be ok from what i know.. the emissions is the main no no... but i also think its the windows.. they dont have shatter proof windows but i doubt any one will ever know or try to b.s. with you if you got a swap and new muffler :evillol:

tell you know..its as hard to import a jdm vehicle here as bringing a nissan skyline here...

1. you need to crash test the car.
2.comply with epa regulations.
3.comply with dot standards.
even if you switch vin numbers.........if you get caught tsk tsk tsk

the only difference is that this company imports directly to the states...canada, i think, has more lax rules on importing cars...and i think itz a lot harder to get an imported car thru customs when crossing the border

but here's his ebay store http://cgi6.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherItems&userid=japanesengines&sort=3&page=2&rows=50&since=-1&showpics=1&stab=0

I'm confused, what's the difference between importing a car into the US and building a kit car / hot rod? Custom hot rods obviously aren't crash tested, and you see those all over the roads (and we won't even get into emissions on them).

They don't have to be crash tested.. jesus..
I know a guy who imported a Skyline GTR and they had to convert the kmh to mph, and mess with the emissions. That's all.

Seriously, like they're going to make you crash your new car you just bought...it's a frigging civic hatchback. And "..its as hard to import a jdm vehicle here as bringing a nissan skyline here..." Isn't a skyline a JDM vehicle??? :slap:
