Alright I've been driving around my 5.0 for awile, its a 1983 5.0 w/ 5speed, I need more power. I was wondering about stroking the engine to 331, is it worth it, were can i buy kits, how much does the install cost? And most of all how much power is gained?

i myself am considering stroking to 347. Strocking is great if you don't want a power adder, but it gets mixed reviews in this forum. I'm an all motor man myself. It's not a simple procedure, but it is possible to do yourself - i'll prob puss out and get someone more intellegent to do it.

well to do it u need to take the enigne out and pretty much tear it down.. u can do it yourself, its work but that stuff is fun... and is it worth it? well u will get more power but not a million more, so don't think ur buying a 500hp n20 kit... so really i would do other stuff before i put 1000 dollars into a big project like that

302's arn't a great motor to buld a stroker out of it. They have a very short 8.2" deck, so when you're running a 347 or even a 331 you start getting a very short piston, with the pin pushed up into the ringlands which makes for a weaker motor. If you want more inches, just swap to a 351W.

i just figured i'd rebuild my 302 in a few years and stroke it then - kill two birds with one stone.
