Ignorance

I've been noticing the use of this word around here alot more than before. But alot of people call others 'ignorant' when really...THEY are the ignorant ones. Example:

person a:" Lotus makes the best sports cars"
person b:"that's quite an ignorant comment since we all know Ferrari makes the best sports cars"

Now...if 'person a' used "IMO" at the beggining of the sentance, would it change the outcome of his/her comment? Yes, but there's no reason to include "IMO" because whatever 'person a' says is his/her opinion becasue HE/SHE is saying it.

So if 'person a' says "Lotus makes the best sports cars", then that's HIS/HER opinon and it CAN'T be an ignorant statement but 'person b', disagreeing, claims 'person a' is ignorant because they don't know that Ferrari makes the best sports cars and 'person b' would actualy be the dumb one.

If 'person a' says: "Honda sold more cars than Toyota in 97 because Hondas look nicer" . This would be an ignorant statement (obviosly) since Toyota outsold Honda in 97 (if my sources are correct).
sella more cars tha Honda

What I'm saying is...alot of people call others 'ignorant' becasue they say something that they do not agree with, and not realizing it's just an opinion.

Useless rant? Ignorant thread? Ease up...it's just an opinon

There is a reason to include IMO, if they didn't, it sounds more like they are stating a fact, and not an opinion, but that's just my opinion. :grinno:

Opinions of such are like assholes. Everyone has one. Getting bent or upset over something so minor as the use of a word such as ignorant is very trivial and hardly worth even debating.

exactly. At the end of the day, when you get offended by something that you see in a forum, the other person is usually so far away that there's damn all that you can do except shrug your shoulders, switch off your PCand go play with the dog for a while. It's much more rewarding than getting all knotted up over a string of binary code.

RazorGTR, taranaki, I'm not getting bent or upset about the use of this word. It does'nt bother me at all. Lighten up a bit.

Having driven several Lotus and worked on several of both I can personaly belive Lotus does make the best sports cars.

Infact depending upon your deffinition of "sports car" you make a very accurate statement by saying that "Lotus makes better sports cars than Ferrari" and use the as justifaction "Ferrari only makes super cars and grand tourers, and has never made a sports car."

But yes about 90% of the members could use a basic lesson in reason and argument, unforunatly it's not something commonly taught outside of University philosophy and politics courses.
